It's disheartening to watch the Rams. It reminds me of the Cardinals in 2015/16 except unlike the Cardinals, the Rams made all the right decisions in their offseason. Instead of getting worse, they got better. Instead of making excuses and trying to win on the cheap, they spent more money and brought in players to take them to the next level. Fundamentally, they decided to strike when the iron was hot, something we should have done. Unlike Steve Keim, Les Snead knows what he is doing. The Rams realize this is their best opportunity to win a championship. So instead of cutting players and making their team worse, the Rams front office goes all in. They actually improved their roster. This is what we should have done in the summer of 2016. Instead of letting guys like Dwight Freeney leave, we should have re-signed them. Instead of allowing Lyle Sendlein to retire, maybe you talk him into playing one more year or sign Alex Mack at center. The Rams are the best team in the league and the favorites to win the Superbowl. That should have been us in 2016.
I remember years ago when there was an amusing faux wikipedia article about former Diamondbacks GM, Kevin Towers secretly still working for the Padres due to all of his bad decisions that hurt the Dbacks. I think we could write a similar one about Keim considering he transformed a Superbowl contender into the worst team in the league in 3 years. I didn't think that was possible.

The Rams have a Franchise QB on a rookie contract. They are in a different Cap situation.

The Rams have a Franchise QB on a rookie contract. They are in a different Cap situation. Very poor response from you. That part is true but ignores everything else. I was one of the few praising the Rams this off season as they signed star after star. What about the salary cap?!! They are like the Eagles Dream team!!! Who cares. When you got a chance to go for it what do you do? You go for it!! The Rams have the super team that is looking way better then anyone. Only thing derailing them is injuries. Can you imagine the excitement being a Rams fan today!!!

Can you imagine the excitement being a Rams fan today!!! Our biggest weakness coming off our NFC title loss to the Panthers and that was our pass rush, we then traded for Chandler Jones (who wasn't paid yet) to go along with Golden while bringing back every core member of the prior team. We had a window as we were the oldest team in the NFL and went for it, people need to stop with the hindsight just because it didn't end with a SB. We actually had to pay Carson and our core players real money that's the big difference as they weren't already on rookie scales. Donald, Gurley, etc are literally just getting paid this year while Goff is still on the rookie scale. They've benefited from sucking as much as anything as their core is all an accumulation of top 15 picks. This board was ready to fire everyone last year after 8-8 and that's all they knew for 15 years prior to last year.

The Rams have a Franchise QB on a rookie contract. They are in a different Cap situation. thats less important than Ryan Mcvays very creative offense. Goff was garbage when that walrus was HC. But Mcvay instantly turned him into a star? Systems matter (as the cards are currently experiencing). I wish we had a Mcvay. Old coaches are stuck in their ways. Young coaches seem to utilize their players better. More dynamic offenses, more creativity.

In 2016 are 4 biggest stars had a cap hit of 60 million dollars. Palmer, Campbell, Fitz and PP This year the Rams top 4 this year account for 48 million. The salary cap for teams is about 20 million more. The Rams have lots of really good players including their QB on rookie contracts. We didn't have that luxury. I'm astounding on how little you understand how the cap impacts what teams can do. We loaded up for 2015 and 2016. We have been purging cap since. Right now Palmer and Bradford account for more than twice what Goff counts for in cap space.

I agree completely with zaz. The HC and coordinators are so important. That being said, the Cardinals are only in the first year of a rebuild. And the coaches are limited by the players that they inherited.
I also think that McCoy is not the answer, moving forward. It’s really tough to teach old dogs new tricks.. this includes both McCoy and the offensive players. I’ll be concerned if the Cardinals don’t change after next years draft.

There is a cap to abide by and we did have a high price QB, unlike the Rams or Philly now. Now, this offseason we will have major cap space and have a starting franchise qb (hopefully) on a rookie deal, which will allow us to repeat that model. The bottom line is that the Cardinals could very easily be a worst to first story from 18' to 19'. Would I bet on it? No. Is it a reasonable possibility given how the league works? Absolutely. This isn't baseball where it takes years to rebuild, especially if you have a franchise qb. We did it by winning 10 (nearly 11) the year after Whiz losing 50-0 or whatever to Seattle.

I am with you in spirit, and I think we can agree that bad decisions have been made. However, this "cheap cardinals" or "not spending enough" stuff is just a common fallacy that has no factual basis. There is a salary cap in the NFL, and its not like the cardinals are spending way under it and pocketing the difference. How cap space is managed is an intricate art (some GMs are better at it than others), but teams want to win games and they aren't just being "cheap".

McDaniels failed miserably, Linehan, Mornhinweig, all young and creative offensive geniuses. Spagnuolo the young defensive genius flames out. I'm sure I'm leaving a dozen or so out. Old man Arians revitalizes the Cardinals until his Rex Arians act and crony protection plan run their course.

Bless you my son, for being one of the very few people who understand the the "cheap Cardinals" label is really " spending Cardinals". That said, the latest conspiracy theory I heard (on another board) was that NFL teams routinely bust the cap and pay fines in retribution. So say the Rams spend a billion on players, get their hand slapped, pay a $1 million fine and all is well. I for one have zero skill at being a cap guru so I bow out of that debate post haste, but I gotta believe it's nonsense. That will further destroy the NFL, well assuming the NFL doesn't fix its roughing the passer problem that will destroy it first if not fixed.

You have to be under the cap by a certain date and you have to be under it accounting for 100% of bonus dollars being paid out, I believe. It's not possible that a team is spending massively over the cap and just paying a fine. Maybe the bonus thing could push you over slightly if a player, or a large group of players ALL achieved all of them in a given year, but that's minimal and not as if they signed 5 extra top dollar free agents to exceed the cap.

I wasnt comparing the Cards situation to the Rams. I was simply stating that the Rams are in a go for it mode and that's GREAT. You're bringing in all the other factors such as Palmer and Fitz and our cap in 2015. that part I agree with like I posted. but in terms of going for it NOW I think the Rams have done a great job.

Wentz went from mediocre to league MVP with the same coaching staff. Rob Woods and Copper Cups weren't on the Rams in 2016. Those two WR had a 179 receptions last year. Their WR in 2016 stunk. Yes the scheme mattered but the personal around Goff was much better last year than in 2016 and it's better this year than last year. You can talk scheme all you want. The Rams team that lined up against us was better at almost every single position on both sides of the ball. Last years team blew Arians team out twice. They blew Wilks team out this year. They blew both Oakland and the Chargers out. Guess what their personal is miles better than all 3 teams. When you suck forever you get lots of high draft picks. Most high pick QB's struggle early. They are usually drafted to a crappy team. The Rams upgraded their team dramatically last year and again this year. The coaching is good but lets not pretend their brilliantly coached O wasn't horrible in a home playoff game against a decent, not great, Atlanta D. How did the Seahawks go to back to back SB?. Rookie contract QB who performed at a high level along with lots of great draft picks who were on rookie contracts. Those guys are getting paid and the Seahawks have been in steady decline. The Eagles and Rams will have to pay their QB's. Lets see how great the coaching staff is after they get paid. Next year we have cap space. Sadly we will still cary 5 million on Bradford. If Rosen develops we will have cap space and another draft to fix things. We should be 2 years behind the Rams, that's if SK is up to the job and Bidwill is willing to pay for creatively structured contracts that will cost the team money? Bidwill unlike the Rams owner isn't funding a 4 plus billion dollar stadium on PSL's. I suspect we will be more conservative but still aggressive.
