Yesterday's last second game winning TD reminded this longtime fan of another 45 years ago. LinkI remember that game and the "Phantom Catch". I don't think George Allen never got over that.

Because of that Mel Grey catch, and the NFC East elitest team rage and bellyaching by Redskins owner Jack Cooke, the NFL Rules Committee adjusted the end zone catch rule. That type "flew in and then flew out" of the end zone "with a brief catch" would not be ruled a TD today. There also has to be ball control and a football move. I saw that game. I was greatly pleased that the decision cost the hated Redskins a loss.

Did this bring about the implementation of instant replay afterwards?
