Isaiah Simmons got in 21 snaps in the Monday Night Game. I have no idea why in the WORLD he was not in there more. TWO THINGS ARE CLEAR! 1. He is much better than Hicks or Campbell is pass coverage 2. Simmons is getting better with more playing time. One more thing I like him on he outside as well. at OLB. He is much better in space. 1st reason He can cover ground quicker than any defensive player on the team. 2nd reason He is not strong enough to play ILB yet. www.revengeofthebirds.com/2020/10/21/21520569/simmons-the-future

I notice Budda Baker coaching him up on one play. Seems like he is still trying to figure it out. I’m holding out hope he will be here and productive for a long time!

Give the top 10 pick some reps FFS. He literally made a play with his head (bonk)-referring to the throw that hit the back of his helmet. Sure PFF gave him a terrific score on that.

We now have two (competing) threads on Simmons. - Perhaps this sums up matters with him; a difficulty assigning him one (and his best) position!
From the latest link -
"Yes. Give Simmons more snaps each week. At the very least, he should play quite frequently at nickel LB, a role he appears to be tailor made for."
First time I have read the words 'Simmons' and 'tailor made' (position) in the same sentence.
As I have just posted on the other thread; the D (Carolina apart) have been doing well so its hard to be critical...

He hasnt had much time to improve himself but that would be a great way to start.

Interesting perspective with regard to snap counts between Budda and Isaiah...
Budda Baker's snaps in his rookie year: 2 3 4 7 4 4 8 8 44 70 61 58 60 51 71 58
Now, they are obviously playing in two different situations. In addition, one was a 1st round pick, the other was a second round pick. There are a ton of variables, and Im not going to take a deep dive as to why Budda and Isaiah had those snap counts in their rookie season.
I am also not saying that Simmons is a draft bust because of his lack of involvement. People are already blaming SK for wasting our first round pick...which is nuts. Even if he was a bust, you would have to go bury every draft guru, PFF, every draft ranking site, Isaiah's college coaches, NFL.com, and your own eyeballs; because everyone had him ranked as first round talent. Sure, some of you are gonna claim that you weren't a fan, and thats fine. Draft your resume and mail it to some of the team owners because GMs are gonna get fired this year. Time to make your millions and never miss on draft day. Is SK perfect? Obviously not. The odds of making picking a consistent starter is actually pretty slim at any round. Just stop calling the kid a bust 6 games in.
Do I want to see 48 on the field more? I obviously do. I want him and Budda to terrorize the NFC West. I want Mr Unlimited to request a trade out of Seattle because he can't get over his night terrors post GameDay. I want Simmons to take away Jimmy G's blankie, because Kittle is too afraid to run a route in Glendale. I want Goff to know that someone is going to hit him, and soon, and that soothing voice of McVay in his helmet...its scared too. I also want to give 48 a solid chance to develop and grow without calling him a bust.

I was prophesizing to myself - Us running nickel packages in the future made up of Baker, J Thompson, Murphy, Simmons and Wade (okay I am on the dreaming scale here). - That lineup is packed solid with tough, hard tackling, young and talented players. A frightening thought for any opposition.

Safeties are generally the 'smartest' players on the defense. D-lineman can be hit or miss, but LB's are usually some of the dumbest guys on the team. I've never checked on Simmons in that manner, but I saw it in my playing career, and also with other guys I've seen turn pro. In fact, safeties and O-lineman are probably the two smartest 'groups.' Centers are almost always the smartest individuals on the team. LB and RB's are probably in the running for two dumbest groups. Hitting their heads so much as full speed, and concussions certainly don't help. I'm not saying that's Simmons issue, but you have to consider it. Also, how complex is Vance's defense? Versus Clemson's? If Clemson had a simple-read-react D, I can imagine the transition is tougher. It's not like on offense where a a coordinator changes the entire gameplan if the QB isn't that smart. D-coordinators aren't changing squat if only one guy can't handle it. Actually, I just looked it up. Baker scored a 14 on the Wonderlic, which isn't great. Simmons scored a 12. Simmons wonderlic was the second lowest for all LBs www.nfldraftdiamonds.com/2020/04/wonderlic-2020-nfl-draft/#:~:text=Prospects-,LSU's%20LB%20Patrick%20Queen%20scores%20a%2024%20on%20wonderlic,Isaiah%20Simmons%20not%20as%20impressive&text=LSU%20linebacker%20Patrick%20Queen%20is,is%20used%20by%20NFL%20teams. Just for reference, Kyler Murray was one of the lowest QBs at 20. Gardner Minneshew scored 42. 50 is the Max. Richard Sherman, considered to be one of the smarter NFL DB's scored 24. Patrick Peterson scored a 9. 20-24 is considered average for a football player. I was trying to look up Kennard's to see if we had any brains on our defense but didn't see his Wonderlic posted. DK was All-Academic 2nd team in college Byron Murphy scored 12. Deonte Thompson scored 14. Damn, our defense is really . I'm shocked they don't miss more assignments. www.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/bgytxq/2nd_annual_wonderlic_score_thread_112_players/But have faith guys, Bobby Wagner scored an 8. iqtestprep.com/nfl-wonderlic-scores/Wonderlic's aren't everything, but there are some correlations with longevity in the NFL, especially for QB's. That was one reason I was concerned with Kyler. He's not just battling height issues, he's not that smart. So if he ever loses his speed, he's done for. You always here people want to compare him to Russel Wilson but RW scored 28. That's a big gap. Dak hit 25. Mahomes hit 24. 24/25 seem to be sort of the bar these days. You don't have to be a genius, but that's about the level that generally corresponds with longevity. And yes, I know there are exceptions. Mostly reposting this because I never realized our defense was that low IQ across the board.
