A Proud grandfather provides the play by play:
Make sure you read the stats at the end
Now they over play him year around in two leagues and he sucks by high school.
Great video!
I know right,
I used to coach youth soccer years and years ago.
So I go to the coaches meeting
and The Commissioner says its time
to draft your players.
So we get started, I have a blank
list with no players But then I look
across the table at the other more
"experienced coaches".
One guys has 8 on his list already
the next has six and so on.
They tell me its time to pick my first kid
off the list. I said why does so and so have
eight kids already and the next guy six.
The league guy tells me
"Oh, all these kids want to play together like
they have for the last 2 years. We don't want
to "break up their friendships" .
I said who are the players I get to pick from
"They are the new kids who want to play
this year." I said ok I get it its a sham
pretty much. Needless to say I was not
liked in the league for raising concerns
about stacked teams. It happens in all sports I know
I got a referee's warning and write up for complaining
about a player deliberately trying to hurt my star
center midfielder. The parents and players loved me for standing up
for them. I told the families, you know
its all set up right? I said lets just have fun.
So we did. We did and the parents got it
after I told them. Everyone can play
2-9-1
We won two games and tied one. The one team
we tied was a team that had a lot of travel players
who played in two leagues.
When we tied the game and it was over
I said to my team : You guys we WON THE GAME!
The kids looked at me and so did the coaches
from the other team. I said yeah we won
the coach on the other side spotted us 2 goals
so this counts as a win! You should have heard
the kids yelling.
But yeah many more fail and burn out
before they get to high school or college.
THEN it gets even worse in college.
The star player is no longer a star player when he
plays tougher competition.
