This Thread will be moved to other the sports thread over the weekend. Bob Gibson 84 Years old Rest In Peace! If Things Can't get any worse, My Childhood hero of Baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals Bob Gibson passed away while in hospice care. I loved Gibby. He was a scary man on the pitcher's mound. They nicknamed him Hoot.
I marveled at his 1.12 ERA season in 1968. They lowered the pitching mound after his incredible season that year.
I watched him strike out 17 Detroit Tigers in a World Series Game'' On October 2nd 1968. Today is that anniversary.
What you may not know about Bob Gibson was that he was not only a great baseball pitcher but he was a great basketball player. He played for the Harlem Globetrotters for a year but decided to go back to baseball. We are forever grateful he did that.
One of the best tributes about Bob Gibson came years ago from Dusty Baker. I found it for you guys. It is not only funny it is telling and scary like I said. He was a beast!

Gibby was the best fielding pitcher I ever saw. He was cat quick off the mound. He also batted .302 one season. I remember one occasion he was used as pinch hitter.

Gibby was the best fielding pitcher I ever saw. He was cat quick off the mound. He also batted .302 one season. I remember one occasion he was used as pinch hitter. I attended many games at Busch Stadium in the 70s but never saw Gibby pitch. That was my loss. I looked it up tonight. Bob Gibson homered at game 7 in 1967 WS and at game 4 in 1968 WS. I think his 2-homer feat is a record that still stands today. Any wonder now why he was a pitch hitter? The man did it all. RIP Gibby.
