Just read that he was a semi-finalist last year. This surprises me, for I would think he would be a no brainer for the Hall. He was one of the real innovators in offenses and considered the top among his peers at the time. He was Bill Walsh, before Bill Walsh. I will be shocked and very disappointed if he isn't voted in real soon. And yes I know, the Chargers never won a Super Bowl with him. But his teams were the most exciting to watch, in my opinion.

Coryell should be in the hof-he made winners out of the cards who were awful and then was successful at san diego

He had much better offensive player at SD than he did with the Cards. Hadle, Love, Lowe and Bambi. Lance Alworth. That beats anything he ever had with the Cards. Guy needs to be in the HOF. First one to ever take the passing game to another level.

Fouts, Winslow and Muncie were the horses in Coryell's Chargers.
Let's give Sid Gillman some respect here, he is the man who helped create passing games of many in his day. Gillman Link

His teams were exciting to watch..HOF is deserved.. Fouts was a great QB, and Coryell reinvented the TE position. Excellent football mind!!

Interesting argument. Pretty good won lost record. Pretty bad playoff record. You can make the argument that he revolutionized the passing game. You can also make the argument the passing game left his D hung out to dry against other good teams when they didn't convert first downs.
Did he revolutionize the TE position or did he have the greatest TE in NFL history? Winslow was the best I ever saw.
