I don’t know how many teams do, but I read the use of 2-back sets has fallen from 40% of offensive plays in the NFL to 11% in 2016. I do believe we will be at the beginning of a pendulum swing back towards more use though. 49ers and Rams as well, from what I’ve read. I am a proponent of doing the opposite of the trend on offense. For example, the NFL has become so pass heavy that defenses have shifted to adjust. This opens an opportunity against most teams on the ground. Few defenses are good at defending both the pass and the run, and most these days focus on the pass.
I agree with Dry Heat. Being a contrarian and doing the opposite (and making that work) is both satisfying and often a successful strategy. Make opponents strengths their weakness. (that last may sound , but you know what I mean)
Isn't that what Belichick does with the Pats? Look how his run game has flourished when needed.

Derrick is a nice story for the NFL but as a player, he's not a playmaker but rather (thus far) he's a luxury for a team that can afford to allocate a roster spot for an undersized fullback whose blocking skills are average.

I don't see Coleman surviving PS and making the final roster. Father Time already claimed him.
