This is why I struggle with resigning Shipley. Mason has looked good so far and I expect that to continue, even with growing pains, the rest of the season. Shipley is a center, thats it. You are going to give him a roster spot as a back up center?? Back up center should be able to bounce out and play guard as well. Shipley will be a year older and coming off injury. How can he win the job over Mason if he has a solid year???

Shipley can play guard in a pinch.

Shipley can play guard in a pinch. Highly debatable and he wouldn’t make my team because of that. I would want an actual guard for that.

The thinnest positions in the league are O lineman.. that’s why I don’t think it’s a bad move.. insurance. Cap is going to 200 mil next season..there is room for insurance, on the Oline..

My back up center needs to be good at guard. You do not want Shipley starting many games at Guard. I dont want him starting one and I do not think he even would. Mason may suck and Shipley is great insurance. Just saying if Mason is solid, then I dont have a place for Shipley in my 53. But this board wants Austin Wolf and Jaxson Shipley back so what do I know over them...

I don't think you'll find a much better backup center than Shipley...
I understand wanting backup guards, we can still find other guys to do that. Even maybe find someone that can play both tackle and guard. It'll be fine.

He doesnt play special teams, and unlike others, I dont think he is a back up guard. That is exactly what I told people about Chris Johnson last year. He doesnt do ANYTHING else. You cant be like that if you are a back up and that is why Adrian Peterson went unsigned so long.

Where is the guy who was adamant we should sign a center and even went as far as saying to cut Cole?

If he sucks, or is expendable... Cut him. Zero money lost.

Point is, if Shipley is our back up center I dont want him on the team.

As a guy who loved Mason coming out of Michigan, I also have to admit it has been a tremendous help having two Gs next to him that are playing excellent ball. The chemistry of the interior has been a massive surprise considering all three weren't expected to be here 8 months ago. Here's to hoping that they stay healthy and continue to build on a strong preseason.

shipley is another guy Keim is simply in love with. The guy is a good team guy and was* very reliable to give at least MEDIOCRE play game after game.
