Remember Cat man? He also hit everything and then lost his confidence. Having said that, I would keep McCrane because of Dawsons age. Cat was better than Dawson last year. Dawson was a hot mess on kicks between 30 and 39 yards last year and missed 3 extra points. Cat had a nice year last year and Dawson was far from automatic. I get that Cat was canned to coverup the hot mess of the 2016 season. If were going to go with a rookie, this is a good year to do it. Low expectations, new staff and were building toward the future. Dawson is probably gone after this year. It would be nice to not be holding tryouts in training camp next year. I think you're spot on about his age. I'm starting to lean this way myself for the very reasons you stated. Who to say how good this guy is. On the other hand, every XP and FG was perfect. Of coarse that includes two 50+ yd FG's. He has done everything possible to make the team. Let him make every kick in this last game. If its more of the same...keep him. Dawson is getting old. He is going to have to be replaced probably sooner than later.....maybe now is the time to do it.

I would consider keeping the rookie. Dawson hasn't been great since joining the Cards but had a solid 2nd half last year. Not great this preseason.

Early in game 3 of the pre-season, Dawson misses a 55 yarder. No big deal, its not a big minus on the guy... just not a positive either. Later in the same game, McCrane gets a 54 yarder right down the middle with probably 6 yards to spare. And what does the man do on the very next kickoff? He accurately hits the ball to the corner of the endzone so there's no chance of return. Obviously we don't know what the competition is like in practice, but in game, McCrane has been more consistent than the 43 year-old Dawson. Keep the rookie and let him rack up the points scored along with Rosen and Kirk for their entire careers. Keep rookie McCrane, cut ageless Dawson. If McCrane's accuracy falls off after 4 games, resign Dawson. It's not like Dawson's 43-yo leg is a hot commodity and another team will instantly sign him after PS game 4.

This is what I have been saying about it. My buddies think I'm nuts, but, who the hell is going to sign Dawson if the Cards cut him? I bet if McCrane and Dawson were up for grabs, McCrane would be called in a heartbeat.
