Maybe somehow McCrane gets a ton of work tonight and looks amazing. Funny that fans see two 50 yarders and give him the job. Better than missing, just like most things on here stuff gets over blown. I am not a Dawson fan so I am more than happy to replace him, just have a hard time buying it would happen.
Cards have seen him in action for awhile, but when those bright lights are on things can change.

Let the whining begin, McCrane has been cut. I think he could be worth a practice squad spot, we shall see.

Not whining, just think it is a bad decision. If we were gunning for a superbowl, yeah I can see the value in an experienced clutch kicker over a rookie. But without sounding too 'half empty', I think this is a .500 team at best and I'd rather take the punt (excuse the pun) on the rookie who could be our kicker for the next 10 years. Throw in to the conversation that Dawson was below average last season and at times terrible, who is earning $3m a year, is 42 and in the last year of said deal.

I'd be shocked if McCrane isn't on a roster somewhere by week 8. Some kicker somewhere will start bonking them off the goal posts or otherwise sailing footballs to the right or left to great cheers or groans from the people in the stands. No excuses for Dawson, that's for certain. Amos is coaching up the boys in Cleveland.

Maybe I missed one, but I think he kicked 3?? 2 inches left and thats a miss and he goes 2/3. It’s just such a small sample size for people to make these comments on him. He booted two long ones and I think thats what people get worked up over. He did have an extra point at least, maybe more. I would give him a practice squad spot and I am not a fan of Dawson, it was just never going to happen.

It's more about people just wanting to move on from a really old and expensive kicker. Dawson is the 2nd oldest kicker in the league yet has only played in 4 playoff games. He had his worst year last year since 2006 and was ranked 22nd in FG% (29th in XP%). I know some people try to blame it on Amos, but when you're that old, a special teams coach isn't going to change much. I know you're just being reasonable and a realist with your posts but it's not needed because of we know it wasn't seriously a competition. This whole thread is very similar to ones we had about Feely vs Catanzaro.

Grouping yourself with “we” though may not be the best because if you knew (you might) the history of people on this board they get WAY too excited over mediocre guys that never play in the league. I am not saying McCrane cant play, we have just not seen enough to make these claims. Keep in mind, I dislike Dawson, he screwed up a lot last year and I do not give him a pass on that. He did hit some clutch ones and had some good games, but man he missed a lot. I will still be hopeful that he has a good year.

And as with all rookies, we’ll never know how they’ll play until they play. We are in rebuilding mode with brand new coaches. If you really want to give the kid a shot, now’s the time. Last year, we saw rookie kickers have success with good teams...Jake Elliot with the Eagles , Harrison Butker with the Chiefs. This year, the Vikings and Cowboys are both going with kickers that have never kicked in the NFL.

(mostly kidding) Meanwhile, the promising kid is with another team and we must once again scour the wilds for a kicker and hope. This has been an example from the book, "How to Win at Pro Football", Special Teams chapter 13, by that noted expert, Alfred E. Neuman.
