Are we voting on who to keep or who to cut?

Keep the kid. He has a much stronger leg than Dawson, and he was deadly accurate at K State from 40 yard in. I know the pro goal posts are somewhat closer together but that shouldn't affect him much his first year. Need to get younger also. Be nice to have a kicker you didn't have to worry about for 10 to 12 year

Rooting for McCrane. Dawson isn't worth his contract. He's currently the 9th highest paid kicker and 9th highest paid player on the team. We'd free up 3 million by releasing him.

McCrane wasn’t exactly lighting it up at the practice I attended. I’ll wait a couple of more games before I cast a vote.

I think if we were a genuine contender, I'd stick with Dawson as he has the experience in his favor. But I think we the stage/development this team is at, I'd develop McCrane. Last thing we want is to cut him, he then gets picked up by another team and next season we have to start from scratch anyway. Just look at Jake Elliot with the Eagles. The Bengals picked him in the fifth round, put him on the PS, Eagles pick him up and he does a great job and has a SB ring. Now the Bengals are trying to replace their kicker again with a former soccer player who played his first ever football game in preseason 1. Better being a year too early than a year too late.

I'm kind of unsure at this time. MeCrane has certainly looked good, but we are only talking about two field goals....granted one them was 53 yds. I have no idea how he has been doing in training camp. Perhaps others can comment on that. Just for reference....here is Dawson stats.... statsHe is getting old and as you can see, there does seem to be a downward trend even if its slight. In both FG percentage and extra point percentage. It may be time for a change......but is McCrane the guy?

We should remember that Dawson had the benefit of Amos Jones' excellent coaching, which just might have had a tiny effect on his performance.
I will cut him some slack for that reason, but agree that financially the kid is a better deal, so far. Like others above, I want to see more of the new leg before committing one way or the other. It is always easy to think a new toy is better than an old, faded but dependable model, and a missed FG or XPt in preseason makes it look even better. . . but still two games to go before time is up, and any money saved would look like nothing if the kid fell flat and games were lost by a kicker.
Let's wait it out.

My first thought was to go with who you trust and who can reasonably estimate how they will do in pressure situations. This would suggest keeping Dawson. However, I looked up McCrane’s bio and found this:
CAREER: A three-time All-Big 12 performer, becoming the first kicker in school history with three all-conference honors in a career... The school’s all-time leader in career field goals made (57), passing Martin Gramatica (55; 1994-95, 1997-98)... Also set the school records for career field goal percentage (86.4) and extra point percentage (99.3), while he tied the school record for career 50-yard field goals made (5)... Finished career with 105 consecutive extra points made to set the school record, while he had already held the career record for consecutive field goals made (16)... His career field goal percentage ranks second in Big 12 history and sixth in NCAA history... Finished career with 304 career points to rank third overall in K-State history and second among kickers... Finished fourth in school history in career extra points made (133) and attempted (134), while he was second in career field goals attempted (66)... Was part of a 2017 Senior Class that earned a four-year record of 32-20, advanced to four bowls and pick up two bowl victories.
Last year, Dawson was victim of a crappy center once Brewer went down. When Brewer returned, Dawson was pretty solid. With this being said, If the coaches feel a youth movement is in order, im okay with it. My guess is that we will stay with Dawson.
