It's early but it's beginning to look like whoever authorized the copter to fly is going to be in dutch. It's said the fog was so bad that even police helicopters were grounded. Philadelphia is really mourning him as he went to Lower Marion High School. Their gym is named for him. His favorite cheesesteak place is taking this hard as well. Larry's Steaks was his favorite as he would have sandwiches shipped to LA. Also, Italy is going to have a week of mourning. He grew up there when his dad played over there. It's said Kobe spoke fluent Italian.

Just speculating, but I've been reading tweets from helicopter enthusiasts who understand how to read flight data, and all of them are saying there was a clear and catastrophic malfuntion.
The Heli climbed altitude, hovered for about 8 seconds, and then plummeted like a rock for 15 seconds. Impact at 185mph. Flight data shows the pilot was trying to fight the free fall, but they were doomed.
fog had nothing to do with it. The engine exploded or something. Thats what the preliminary flight data says anyways.

There were 7 others who passed...In the shadows of Kobe's fame. Sad to say but the other 7 are hardly mentioned. They have loved ones too. I posted Coach Joe Altobelli his wife Keri and daughter Alyssa also perished. Coach Christina Mauser was among the victims. As were Sarah Chester and her 13 year old daughter Peyton who was a basketball player. Ara Zobayan was the pilot. Along with the Kobe and his daughter Gianna. May they all be granted eternal rest.

Im in 100% agreement about the tragedy of the 7 others killed. But it is the way of the world. It brings to mind the Jokers (Heath Ledger) speech in the Dark Knight. When hes talking about chaos.
"If a gangbanger gets killed or a truckload of soldiers gets blown up, nobody cares, because its all part of the plan".
But Kobe dies, a famous person, and its world changing. Because thats not part of the plan. Only nobodies are suppose to die, not celebs.
Sad but true

Altobelli had a son, JJ, from a previous marriage and another daughter, Alexis, the sister of Alyssa. I feel really bad for those 2 kids. JJ still has his Mom, but Alexis lost both parents and her sister. Her whole family is gone and left her alone. I pray that she is close to her half brother and has really good aunts and uncles and other family. Man.

The parents and sibling losses are just awful. I hope that she gets much love and constant hugs from the healthcare workers and step-family that will care for her as she grows up.

Sad but true It's because it brings us to think about our own mortality.Kobe was more than a celebrity. He was an icon.He was 41.Of course people will focus on him. He was KOBE.

Thats what the preliminary flight data says anyways. They climbed up to 2000' but that's 2000 above sea level not the ground. The ATC said they were flying too low then climbed to clear a hill and maybe hit the next hill and they didnt see it cause of the fog. Fog had to play a part in in.No visibility with low level flying is some of the most dangerous flying you can do. They said they heard it sputtering so it could of been the blades flapping they heard or like you said the engine malfunctioned or something.Im sure the chopper was kept in great condition considering it was Kobe.
