Some team has to be #3 to start the season. Why not Arizona? If the D can carry the team a few games, maybe the 2018 season is not all gloom and doom after all.

Definitely cool to see Cards D so high on the list and it would be great if it turns out that way. Still, the article is kind of weird. I expected some kind of "hot take", reaction baiting intro to the list - something along the lines of "Everyone else is wrong!!! There are actually six teams with a better D than the Rams!". Then again, the first two are pretty much consensus, so I'll accept it as one NFL.com columnist's honest opinion. I think I like that he's basing a big part of his prediction on what he's seen from "defensive guru" Steve Wilks "in the early goings"
I have no doubt our D is getting slept on most other places... still, #3? Based on known unknowns?

New defensive playbook and new defensive coaches. Anything at this point is just guessing. Talent there, for sure.

I was very disappointed with the soft zone we played in the first ps game. Very little press coverage. The Chargers rolled up a lot of yards. This was not Todd Bowles defense, not at all aggressive. This is our D now, get used to it. Lots of zone. Few blitz. that goes for O too. Forget about exciting BA ball with deep downfield passing. This O will be slow and grinding. Lots of runs. Lots of short passes. But hopefully the tradeoff for boring football is wins Weird because Steve Wilks was known at Carolina for being too aggressive with his blitzes to a fault, but maybe it's different with Holcomb running the defense. I'm not yet sold on Holcomb being the DC since his job was pretty easy with Kuechly, Davis, and Shaq Thompson as his LBs. Here in Arizona, we don't have the luxury of having a Mike LB that can also play in the nickel.

It's not really relevant to this, but I can't help thinking that Adrian Wilson might have been even MORE of a beast in the 2018 scheme.

Hard to believe that Wilks has a better defense here as opposed to Carolina. I'll take it.

According to some dude at Sports Illustrated, only one team blitzed more last year than the Cardinals: the Carolina Panthers

They got lucky with the turnover’s early.. gutted right up the middle, early in the game. But! I bet they had a good day statistically. They could be good, really good! Looking forward to week 1..
