After watching the clip I'm convinced the attaching pin or bolt that is supposed to retain the top pad part was either not in place or was about to fall out anyway. Like putting a trailer hitch ball and drawbar on a truck but forgetting to install the retention pin.
If you check the last part of the clip it shows the square tubing sticking out at the bottom of the pad, with a hole for securing it to the sled with some kind of mechanical lock - but it is an open hole, no bolt or pin visible.
Notice also that Jones is pushing upward as much as forward, which dislodged the top pad. Anyone think this was a setup? Or just lazy assembly by whoever puts them together?
Looks impressive if you don't have a doubting mind though...
Wilks said CJ Broke the piece of equipment. And it would have to be replaced. See his Vid interview after practice that day.

I saw that vid too. Not convinced that Wilks is a structural engineer or anything close, though. I think it suits his purpose to let some think it broke - - - - a bit of football foolery, AKA psychological intimidation.

I'm just glad CJ did not cut his leg when it broke and he fell forward. He might have a bruise on the one shin though....

Not convinced you know what a Structural Engineer does either ...Oh, but I do - not that it matters. If it makes you feel better to think otherwise, be my guest. It was only a convenient term that popped into my mind.
That aside, the point is IMO Wilks is happy to let others think that brute force by Jones "broke" the sled. And in his place I would as well, for the tactical advantage it might produce with those who face Jones in action.
Let's not get lost in technicalities or semantics, or "broke", "separated" or "prematurely detached" - OK? It has no bearing on the point.
