Rim, thanks for the article. Kwong nails it: Williams will continue to be a wideout afterthought until Williams applies himself first in the classroom and second on the field. That Williams can run a 4.30, bench press 200 pounds, and leap 48" means nothing to the QB if the playbook is too complicated for Williams. Low football IQ is very hard to fix in a weight room.

This is what tells me he'll never be good:
"being out of shape"
I can understand the playbook. Ill never fault a guy for struggling to learn X's and O's. But being out of shape??? As an athlete theres nothing you can control more than your conditioning.
You know OTAs are 2 weeks ago, how are you not busting your ass?? Instead you show up fat and tired? Id cut him on the spot.

Though Williams apparently is in top shape now. So we can assume that his conditioning won't be a issue for 2018 roster decisions. The X's and O's thing bothers me. Coaches can't fix Mr. Dumb.

I loved watching a 30 on 30 (I think?) about Jimmy Johnson where he is retired and on his fishing boat with Bill Belichick, apparently they are good friends, and Bill says that the one thing that JJ taught him that has held up through the years is that you don’t draft dumb players. You can’t coach . Rings true

I want to see something from Chad this year or I'm going to lean toward "bust".

I heard that Jon Gruden (now Raiders coach. My Spider Y Banana guy) is notorious for having brutal playbooks. You can have a smart player, who struggles because you have a ridiculous playbook. In that case I think its on the coaches to adjust things. And apparently our D is much simpler this year. Less thinking. More speed/reaction. Major positive++

Major positive++ Yep, there has to be a playbook balance between the few Einstein coaches and some Dumb & Dumber players. We all agree that there is no leeway on athleticism. I always though Defense was the simpler side to play. The NFL is making D easier every year. Is Touch Football next? LOL!

We don't know the ins or outs of it but lets be real, he may have been Grambling State fit, but not NFL fit. Maybe the coaches there and his advisers didn't realise the shape he had to be in to be ready to go. But by the sounds of it he has spent the entire offseason working out and getting in peak condition. Lets see how he does in an offense which should be more suited to his talents.

Credit him where due. **However...I dont feel like you should show up fat to OTAs, be told to get in shape, and then go get in shape for the start of Camp. Why cant you be a professional and always show up to team activities in-shape? They are on the calendar, its not like they sneak up on you after Thanksgiving dinner.

Bruce Arians on the Doug & Wolf show cited Chad Williams as his choice for potential #2 receiver - FWIW. BA surprised me with this so hopefully Chad was showing some skills late in the year in practice since we never saw it translate on the field... of course 3 different starting QB's probably didn't help and certainly not coming into the profession in top shape is a big problem.
Remember even Carson Palmer said it took him about a year and a half to "get" the complicated BA offense and so I am hoping Chad (reportedly in the best shape of his life) will be able to take the concepts learned last year and more quickly learn the nuances of the WR position under McCoy.
Am worried that in an interview with PP21 a couple of weeks ago, Patrick cited JJ Nelson and Kirk as WR's he took note of during mini-camp but didn't mention Chad W. ... so we'll see.

I still remember this kids initial interview last year after the draft on 98.7
He was really full of himself and spoke of his talent like he was the second coming of Terrell owens.
To me when I hear that I sense false confidence in a guy. I'd rather hear a rookie be humble and understand he has a lot to learn and he may not set the world on fire right away.
Sounds a bit like a dummy but WR is not that complicated. Lets hope year 2 he "gets it". The kid clearly has talent.

Like someone said. You can't coach dumb. Doesn't matter how gifted he is. If you can't learn the playbook, how can they play him ? Never was happy with this choice. I guess we find out this year if he will ever amount to anything. I don't think he will. Surprise me kid.

Cards are in still in need of a legit #2 WR. No hype out of camp will change that on game day (hope you guys learned by now - Cards media hype is all fluff and paid for by the team).
