my feeling is there will be a long stoppage and I simply wont care.
If football stopped today I would move on to one of many of my interests/hobbies.
If they dont ruin the game too much I will stay vested.

If the NFL took a break for one season, that might be a good thing for everyone.

Zaz can I ask how old you are? Three separate topic posts in a row I’ve read just now make me think you’re on the younger side. Im in my prime Back to the Q. Why is the NBA terrible? Age was important to the question. Those of us who grew up watching in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s know the quality of basketball has trended downward for around 20 years.

But you still watch every Sunday right? Sure, it might be diminished, but its still great. And I disagree about the NBA. Alot of greats have played recently. Lebron of course. Kobe as much as Suns fans hate him, admire his work ethic. Shaq is top 5 all time center. Tim Duncan is all timer. Dirk Nowitzky is the greatest ever Euro import. Steph Curry might be the greatest shooter of all time. So lots of great players right now means its a good league. Even though its not terribly competitive with super teams. I would say of all sports, Baseball is the worst its ever been right now. No stars anymore.

Do you think you do the best you can at your job/business? Why do professional athletes earn so much money? How much is enough? Are they somehow better people than your average joe? I just think it’s crazy that a guy who can throw or catch the ball really well can make millions of dollars over a very short period of time. I realize the argument, why should the owner s make all the money. They shouldn’t!! Most if not all of the owners are in the professional sports business because the love the game. Most of the money flows via tv money. What if that money were to dry up? Do you think there would still be men and women who play competitive sports (for the love of the game) just because they are wired that way? I enjoy competitive sport, and would probably enjoy pro football more if there weren’t all of the bad stories about players and others (thanks SK) floating around. The money just kinda ruins pro sports. And I wish I knew what the answer was. I definitely don’t!! I just know how all the negative story’s and huge contracts just bugs me. Makes me almost nauseous. But I do love football! Why, because I loved playing the game as a kid. Same with basketball, loved it. (P.S. my nickname was wrong way in basketball) a guy makes 1 basket for the opposition after a tremendous redound and he is tagged for life..So it’s the money that has ruined the game. It’s not the only reason, but it is definitely at the top of the list. IMHO

Roger Goodell, arguably the worst Commissioner is sports, is paid $48M per year.....FOR WHAT?? If you leave it to me, I think the guy on the field deserves that money more than the guy in the luxury suite above the field. Also this whole money is evil thing is a waste of time. You might as well adjust to it. Theres people living in poverty, yet Jeff Bezos is now worth $150 Billion dollars. Theres nothing fair or balanced about the world.

Equal opportunity does not entitle one to equal outcomes. That’s the reality as it should be but there are some who will disagree.

Any way, if there is a lockout/strike. There are several teams with huge debt. Any stop in play is going to effect the bottom line. Dallas has huge debt, 2.5 billion +/- with the stadium and the new practice facility. They spent more on the practice facility then they did on the stadium. Unbelievable!!

Owners have massive debts. Some players have huge debts too.
Everyone will experience pressure to get to YES w/o inflicting financial pain.
The bill payers are the sponsors and to a lesser extent the PSL holders. Get ready to pony up more.

The bill payers are the sponsors and to a lesser extent the PSL holders. Get ready to pony up more. The ticket prices will be higher, the psl’s just adds insult to injury. The thing that bugs me is when the teams get local government funds to build the stadiums, then piles the psl’s on top. And gets all kinds of tax breaks too boot! I hope there isn’t a strike, but it wouldn’t surprise me. The 18 game regular season is a given, they will probably add additional players to each team somehow. And maybe 2 bye weeks. With the extra bye I bet every team will play in either London or Mexico every season.

The NBA is terrible because of their soft salary cap and "max deals". When you are a good player, every team can offer you the same money...which sounds good on the surface, but its not. If the Suns wanted to dedicate 50% of their cap to Lebron and offer him 65 million a year, they should be able to do that....it would be there only way to ever have a chance at signing him. Also...when you able to manipulate the cap in a way where once you sign a good player, then you can go over the cap...then these super teams can exist. Also..the NBA season is entirely too long, and players know they can take 20% of the games off and their team will still get to the playoffs, which is all that matters. The NBA has the least important regular season in sports. If they shortened to season to 50 games the quality of play would increase drastically.
To the NFL...Guaranteed Contracts would be fine...but they will have to be limited. Player contracts in general would have to come down per year, and the max contract would have to be about 3 years.
I don't think it would impact motivation at all, and quite frankly I think that is silly to think that. In fact I would think guys would want to take much less risk if their contract was not guaranteed, meaning that wouldn't be going 100% all the time.
Change the system to where the yearly cost of contracts comes down about 25%...but they are fully guaranteed..and are a max of 3 years. Also, get rid of the IR-Return rule...let it be unlimited. If a player gets hurt and recovers during the season, why should we not want them to play? Increase the # of roster spots...let teams sign players to fill those spots for a few weeks after an injury (fully guaranteed).
