Yeah I almost fainted when I realized we hired Coach Wilks....6...flippin..months ago. LAWD does time fly.
Anyways, I know we dont have a ton to go off of with no actual football being played, but whats your views of coach Wilks?
My observations:
- I think hes an even better players coach than BA. Plays rap music at practice. Seen a mini camp clip where he challenged JJ to a race. Very player friendly.
- (expected) hes not a good soundbite like BA. I noticed Wilks speaks very well in front of the media, but he tells you nothing. Classic coach speak. Vague. Doesnt discuss injuries. Probably wont ever call anyone out. Etc. Etc.
- I think he made excellent hires in the OC and DC. That speaks well of him as a leader that he hires good assistants. I like Mike Mccoy very much. I LOVE that he adjusts to his players strengths, unlike BA who forced you to play BA ball.
- Im not sure what Wilks problem will be. Example: BA awful play calling (fades to John Brown)/ Always taking the ball at coin toss/ Not firing Amos. But my prediction is Wilks might not be able to motivate the team if we get in a rut. I think Wilks is a classic "Great coach when things are going good" type. Similar to Wiz. Which is not a bad thing necessarily, especially if Rosen pans out.
- Im not sure how much influence our HC's have on the draft with Keim around, but I do think Wilks had a good 1st draft. Lots of good, proven players. I think under BA, our drafts were full of alot of projects. Highly athletic, short resume guys. Often busted.
- I think Wilks will be a very good HC for Rosen. Or any rookie QB, but specifically Rosen. I think BA was too overbearing and wouldve gotten into arguments with Rosen. I see Wilks as being a better guide for a young QB.
Thus far: A-
He gets the minus because the 8AM camp times inconvenience me, but otherwise I think hes doing very good.
