I’m saying with the reality of the dead cap in Kyler’s 2025 contract, there are no 50% savings to be had. Point is, there have not been a ton of great QBs in the NFL for a few years. Anyone wanting to move on from Kyler and the reality of his contract should at least be made to name the realistic replacement, factor in the dead cap hit that would occur with a cut or trade, and then argue why it would still be a good idea. My opinion is there are no realistic options on the existing rosters of NFL teams worth moving on from Kyler, in the context of his contract, until after 2025. Once folks realize this we can focus talk on how to build a stronger roster and organization for whomever is at QB in 2025, 2026 and 2027 when this rebuild will be in its critical years 3-5. Did you think last year produced a great class? I think it could end up being really solid. I think QB play is down because we had multiple top QBs retire the last few years, mainstays like Brady. When you look at the other older guys with pedigree, like Rogers, most just can't cut it anymore. So Kyler looks better in relation to the league average because the rookies this year, are performing well, yet can't be expected to outplay Kyler. Not in year one. By next year, I'd expect to see Kyler much further down the list because some of those rookies are jumping above him. When you do look at the vets near Kyler's age, several dealt with injuries like Tua. So to me, it looks like Kyler has easy comparisons this year. His turnovers might be better than years past, but his yardage isn't exactly impressive, and he's got a much better supporting cast on offense than he's had in quite some time. He might not have DHOP, but he's got more offensive threats than he used to. Wilson, McBride and Connor aren't slouches. I didn't cite MHJ because he's got his head stuck up his.... I think Colt McCoy would have an identical record playing with our current cast. IMO. I do think 2024 was a good QB class, and that is why I was advocating taking Jayden Williams with our second first rounder or Bo Nix with our second rounder even though I also advocated keeping Kyler through at lease 2025 (for contract reasons and to see if he could succeed in Gannon/Petzing’s offense). Only one of the rookies is out-playing Kyler, which is Daniels of course, and I’m not surprised. I said Daniels was a taller and probably better Kyler Murray, and wanted him as a backup in 2024 to push Kyler for the starting job in 2025. Unfortunately, his stock and the stock of Nix appropriately rose. Colt McCoy would not have an identical record playing with our current cast IMO. Kyler Murray has faults. Kyler Murray has less faults than around 25 of the 32 starting QB’s in the NFL IMO. Perfection is the enemy of the good, and in any case doesn’t exist in a game where 4-6 jacked 250+ lb athletes are trying to smash you on every play.

The knot is tied between Gannon and Murray. - This tandem will be back together in 2025 (realistically there is no choice). The knot was tied between Kingsbury and Murray, too - but it eventually came apart. However, logic says you are correct. Is logic to be trusted? What have you done for me lately league well KM has had 6 seasons they had better do something different or they become the very definition keep trying the same thing hoping for a different result.

Wait another season, Knobby is my message (to determine how the Gannon & Murray relationship plays out). That wasn't a prediction, only an observation. No need for concern.

Gannon laughs it off that is either trying to sucker someone or he needs to do his homework. I think JG is trying to be loyal to and trusting with his players, since he wants them to be the same with him. That is sometimes contrary to achieving goal #1 (win, win, win) and a difficult balancing act. Gannon has to answer to Monti and Mike, and both surely have asked some pointed questions lately. I'll cut him some slack for a while, unlike another coach who I feel is not up to handling his position adequately. I also think JG avoids direct, truthful answers in his press statements, which is understandable. Why stir the media pot? He relies on KM because so far he has little choice. I am sure keeping KM was part and parcel of JG's hiring agreement, and it probably seemed like a good thing to him at the time. JG is stuck with KM for another year at least, thus is protective in public. That does not mean Monti should avoid looking for a replacement until the last minute, or that the FO can't see what most of us have seen. IMHO

Whether you like KM or not, JG has to make the best of it.
