WEEK 10 - Things were looking good for the Cardinals. Expectations were deservedly high, and the record was improved over last season. We had won three games in a row, then went to New York and grounded the Jets. Happy times! Spirits were high and confidence ruled the day.
WEEK 11 - and the BYE...
Someone decided it was a week of vacation from football, not just a week without having to play anyone - and that's when it hit the fan. All concentration and continuity was lost. Instead of healing sore bodies and continuing emphasis on study, practice and improving each week, players went their separate ways to relax or play, and indeed took the week away from their job.
WEEK 12 - The first of three successive losses to our opponents. Not only losses, but
the habit of working together seemed to have been lost. Mistakes after
mistakes and looking unprepared, with a very few individual exceptions.
It seems obvious - that one decision was the tipping point for this season, and I believe it all falls on the shoulders of one man: Gannon. Was that week away from job #1 a rookie coach bad call? Was it a personal
need to get away from the daily grind? Was there pressure from others? Was the idea to reward players and coaches for their good work thus far?
Whatever, that change in regimen began the big plunge from a promising trend of success to dismay and bewilderment for everyone involved, and the familiar "Same old Cardinals" from naysayers of the football world. It hasn't been pretty, and it wasn't necessary - - -
IMHO

Traveling across the country during the bye for Pizza.
With the biggest game on the line the following week.

We had 4 easy and beatable opponents in a row. That's the real answer. Then we had 3 games against 3 real opponents (2 against Seattle and 1 against Minny).
That's not the answer people want to hear but it's the reality. As fans, we got on a high because we won 4 in a row but wasn't surprised by the last 3 losses. As I predicted before the season started, we are not close to competing for a playoff berth or being a legitimate playoff team. We are still several pieces away

Then we had 3 games against 3 real opponents (2 against Seattle and 1 against Minny). True enough, but it was the way we lost those last 3 games: stumbling, bumbling and shooting ourselves in the foot, impacted here and there by "luck" either bad or good. IMO if the team and coaches that had shown up in those 3 games were as well prepared to play as before the bye, we could have won at least at Minn. if not all of them. Do you think we adapted our O and D well enough to counter what the opponents did during those 3 games? I don't. Do you think we performed as well as a team then as before the bye? I don't. Do you agree in giving players a week vacation when we are trying to imbue consistency and constantly improve in all respects? To me, that was outright stupidity. To overcome our lack of strength in some spots we must eliminate mistakes and have great coaching performance, and that requires constant dedication to doing things right - not turning attention away from business for an entire week. Opponent strength alone is not the entire answer - IMHO. I'm not refuting your point, only stating what I see as the bigger picture and poor managing of procedures and preparation.

Maybe something has been in the works, or will be concluded later? Hmmmm.
This could actually become interesting. Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of "Kyler takes a bite of the Big Apple".

And what might we get for Murray and his contract, plus the dead cap we would have to eat, from the Jets to make it worth it?
