Another Rutgers player I like in the 2025 draft in the mid-rounds is tackle Hollin Pierce 6'8" 340 LBs. A giant with surprising agility. He may take a year to develop, but worth the investment.

Thanks Devongent Personally I do not see a OL pick in the first round. Teams usually pick LTs in the 1st, but RTs are usually a 3rd round pick unless you are a Harbaugh. Jones was a 5th and given a year to develop...he seems to be the near future RT, I did mention the big RT from Rutgers as an additional depth piece. The Cards have to spend the 1st round pick at DL or edge. I could see 2 of the first 3 picks or 3 of the first 4 picks on the defense. The Cards have spent so much on the offense and neglected the defense. Even the FAs they signed in 2023 and 2024 were 2 year fixes at best outside of White who was more the quarterback on the defense. Mack Wilson is the surprise who may have earned a long term plan. C Jones is a more mobile RT player and if they pick another RT option I would think Monti wants a 6'7" to 6'9" tall option to mix with the more mobile Jones at 6'5".

For myself, I have always considered the 'importance of LT v RT' comparison a little overdone (although accepting LT is predominate to defend the blind side). Teams will (and do) switch their premier edge rushers to attack the weakest point, and if that is on Right Side then the RT is the guy stood in the way to prevent the Quarterback taking a hammering or, at least, with less time to throw the ball. - For a long time the Cardinals have had a revolving door at RT and I don't think this can help our run game either. Still....... The Cards have to spend the 1st round pick at DL or edge. I could see 2 of the first 3 picks or 3 of the first 4 picks on the defense. This has got to be favorite and chances this is where we will be heading. There is plenty of top talent to be had this time around and a great Edge rusher will allows predominate in the popularity stakes when it comes to the first round. It is not clear whereabouts the Cardinals will be picking; hence its probably a little unwise to get too high on a particular player at this point. I'm keeping my mind open for now and if a fantastic Tackle prospect does present, then I would be happy to get behind that as well. The Jonah Williams situation is hard to predict (maybe he will be back on the field during the season and an evaluation can be made), but I got this nagging feeling he could be moved across to Guard. Christian Jones (ex-team mate of Cameron Williams in Texas as it happens) was evidently drafted as a development piece and we will see how far he goes. We will require at least one other Tackle on the roster, who is good and ready to play, therefore, I don't consider we are over-flushed in the Tackle department, especially so if Kelvin Beachum retires from the game/ is not offered a further contract. Finally, there is always a potential possibility that the FO will become frustrated by a mis-firing Offense in 2024 and thus decide to throw their chips in on the side of the ball.

Edge in 4-3 is different than what the Cards need in their 3-4 and nickel. The traditional edge is a pass rusher and Cards edge have to do that as well as have good coverage skills. The position of more importance is the 3 & 5 technique DE. This player has to be stout like a DT and fast like a traditional edge player. The OLBs for the Cards are neutralized without better DEs at the 3 and 5. DRob is one of those DEs and they have to get him a partner in the 2025 draft. In the 2025 draft Jordan Burch Oregon and Landon Jackson Arkansas are a couple of the 3 & 5 tech DEs who are tall, stout and fast enough to be solid in pass rush. In the nickel these type of DEs can play the 0 and 3 and 2-3 OLBs can be the DL on long down and distances. A large NT is important on 1st downs, but the big men who demand a double to be pushed out of the 0 gap can be had in 3-5 rounds. The svelt big men at the 3 & 5 tech or gaps are the 1-3 round guys who are a hard find. DRob was a steal and an important key to unlock good defense...and he has been bit this year. The DT FA signings would have performed better with DRob and those type of rotational DTs in this defense will always suffer in PFF since they are asked to body OL players for the LBs to make the tackles. They have attempted to use Budda too much as a LB and it didn't take long for OCs to identify that and adjust. There is no fix for offenses with Cards running 2 DRob types who can half the DL together and dominate the middle in the QBs face...close and personal. The long svelt DEs can take on the OL as well as move off in run defense or create better pass rush up the gut as well as destroy passing lanes with their reach. The FAs Jones and Nichols were pushed around to much and had no pass rush they did eat up some OL blockers, but very little of protecting the LBs. White has had issues getting off OL blocks and it has been a bad combo. I like Mack Wilson's skill set better at ILB than White's. White does better in space and when you put him in a booth he fails. Wilson and White are a good pair...just not used correctly. When the Cards go nickel they should have White and Wilson at ILB and Budda as the in the box DB and show double safety with Rabbit and Thompson and role to single safety with Rabbit at free and Thompson the mid to deep nickel backer and use Budda in short and dump off coverage for backs and TEs at or behind the LOS. Budda in mid and deep coverage is not good.

It's not a particularly good tackle class though. There are some day two RTs though.

I want to be clear, we made the investment in Jonah Williams for better or for worse and his contract suggests he will be our RT through at least 2025. My hope is he comes back and is a stud on the right side. He’s not old for an OT. I do think another developmental T in the 3rd or 4th would be wise. What I want from 2025 free agency and draft is a 75-80% focus on defense. Three of the first four picks sounds good, and I would be fine with four of the first four. DL and LBs for two days straight.

Nice imagery FL and thanks for the thought. Look forward to seeing your recommendation later in the process, but we could well be 'winning our way out' of the real top prospects.
