Good-Good vibes pre-game. Kliff as an OC and what he learned post AZ stint...like many former Card players that seem to figure things out after leaving the desert. Kliff understands the value in using TEs and getting QB under center...he didn't as the HC in AZ. There was some attempts to use TE in his last year or so in AZ. I liked Robinson coming out of Alabama and he looked great today. Robinson is big and a solid RB. Daniels was great...not good(never was pressured).
Bad-The defense on the first drive of the game and players who are leaders getting the defense to play up to potential comes too late. No defensive aggression and when a play is made two-three plays are given up. The coaching is stuck playing nickel. The need to stop the run demands two ILBs to be used until the defense can stop the run. Nickel CB and outside CB is horrible..so why not play two ILBs, 3 down lineman, and 2 OLBs. Safety play could be in the ugly portion...so why no Rabbit? Don't care how bad the offense is...42 points gifted by the defense it terrible.
Ugly- K1's play, choices and body language. He has been a big contributor in one staff being fired and working on his second. He ignores moving the chains and presses for the big play. Refuses the layup over the half court toss-up. FO and coaching staff are now the focal point of what are they going to do. What ever is being done in the week for preparation is not working.
I made some comments on previous HCs in AZ Green was the best, but losing 2 out of 3 games and no post season gets even good HCs fired. Green picked players that contributed to get the Cards to the SB with Whiz. Whiz won 1 out of 2 games in the regular season and 2 out of 3 playoff games. Next BA won 2 out of 3 regular season games and injuries to QB led to winning 1 out of 3 post season games.
AZ has been a more than difficult place for HCs. Even with the winning 1 out of 5 games record for JG so far...I would give him more rope and even consider moving off K1 first. Monti cleaned up the books and the roster still has issues at the DL and secondary that even a good offense can not cover. Only so many players can be drafted. It takes signing vets as well and Monti had a dud at DT and RT with Williams and Jones out with injuries right out of the gate. The Cards are one of the youngest rosters and are playing like it.
The QB draft watch could be in full force soon...Cam Ward Miami is one I like...Manning would be worth tanking for but he will not be draftable for a few years...at least two.
I loved Puni who was a tackle at Kansas and now plays for the Niners...I hope the two OL players drafted age better than their start.
Hopefully Robinson can return soon and have a positive impact.
Looks like the same old Cardinals.
