Thank You Dani... Running Down A Dream This Cardinals offense is built around being able to run the ball, and that's exactly what this Commanders defense presents the opportunity to do. Washington's 29th-ranked defense ranks bottom of the league in first down, third down and red zone; three categories in which the Cardinals offense ranks top 10. Arizona can't let the fact that they struggled to find success in the run game last week against Detroit change their identity. They need to run it early and often to create rhythm and open up the passing game. -- Dani Sureck I like the way this ties in with DryHeat's game plan of keeping the ball out of the hands of Washington's QB.

Yes and it’s very dependent on us grabbing an early lead, preferably a multiple score lead. We look like a very different team playing with a lead than when playing from behind. If we are forced into a pass heavy game, we’ve struggled.

Thanks, CC and thanks DH
You both make good points. It was interesting Baldy post game brought up the size of the Lion's DEs and AZ's OL inability to move them. Monti is building a bully and it was two bullies punching each other last week.
AZ does play differently playing from behind as well as losing field position continually. The Lions excelled at putting Cards in bad field position when punting. Having to drive 90 yards each drive is hard.
K1 has had some of the most time to throw and maybe sticking to moving the chains on the shorter 1st down throws is better at times than going deep too much. Without looking I would expect Daniels depth of throw on average to be short with leading at completion rate.
Klff specialty is beating two high safety. We will see what Rallis has planned.
Conner needs a good game as well as a breakout for Benson. The RBs need their touches.

The bell cow running back had 9 attempts all game. And you can say, well the running game wasnt working, so they went to pass mode. But the passing game was also not working, so why didnt they abandoned that? All Im saying is, it was weird they did not try to adjust the running game and keep at it in hopes of finally breaking through. What if Connor on the 10th carry runs it for a 40 yard run? What if they found a weakness against the Lions? Or at a minimum, it kept the defense honest and allowed to open up something like play action. On top of that, KM was just throwing deep down the field over and over again, instead of taking what the defense is giving. Like he was forcing it. The whole offense just seemed totally different overall, out of character. Just hope they figure it out, because that offense last week wont win any games.

I did see somewhere yesterday that Daniels' avg. depth per pass was not very long....I want to say around 8 yards? Maybe I should go and see if I can find it again...I'll be back... (edit) : Yeah, on the season he's doing 8.83. However, for just the Bengals game, 11. I got the numbers from the Commodes website.

In his first 53 NFL passes 22 of them were at the line of scrimmage or behind. 29% in week one and 38% in week two were screens. He did the opposite in week 3 by doubling the length of his pass attempts. Play action had a bump as well. Through week 2 14.1% of his completion yardage was in the air...84.9% was by the receivers after the catch. Kliff is still running the screen and hitch pass game and make receivers make plays. It has worked against poor competition. My question is: Is blitzing him better or a 3 man rush and limit what WRs do after the catch and get defenders in throwing lanes? Blitzing can open run lanes...maybe the slow push with sound gap defense is better and getting defenders where he is not expecting. Making the players who do catch passes pay and if they play run option...put a player on pitch man and one on the QB and hit the QB every time they allow him to be in position to be hit.

An additional look at the game...the INT really put a hurt on the team success. It was a greedy play...maybe trying to catch a defense that wasn't lined up at snap...the under thrown pass sealed a bad result...they had time to put more emphasis on the run but coaches and K1 played panicked after the INT.

The team isn't built to running the ball. To successfully run the ball, you have to run inside. Both are starting guards and center are not good enough. All three need to be replaced with better players. And we've ignored these positions for years. The Cardinals have had good tackles and we've been decent in pass protection for years but a big reason we can't run inside we are just deficient up front and this has been a problem for years even back in the Steve Keim era.
So when I hear the Cardinals are built to the run the ball, I have to laugh, because it's the furthest thing from the truth. Maybe that's the front office's goal, but they have just done a really bad job of accomplishing that goal. We invested a lot of our resources in the secondary in the draft and we needed more help in the trenches at both Center, Guard and Defensive Tackle. That's your core.
If I'm the offensive coordinator and I legitimately want to win, I go 4 wide and the run n shoot. That's our only realistic path to moving the ball consistently. Get the ball out of Kyler's hands quickly and focus on 3-4 yards per catch. It's not popular. It puts your QB at risk but what we are doing now is not working
