Well as I expected, I did not think they would win this game. Was hoping though, that would of been a massive show of how well this rebuild is going. But it was still close, hey not every game is going to be beautiful and this game was butt ugly. I saw a lot of fans harping on the defense, and they do have their issues, but lets be honest, most of us knew this defense wasn't going to be good going into the season, especially missing guys like BJ and Robinson. But the defense adjusted in the second half and gave up no points and started to make 3rd down stops. Of course late in the game they did not make those stops, but they gave the Cardinals offense plenty of opportunity to make something happen.
It was only 20-10 at halftime. Yet so much doom and gloom. Just like week 1, as crappy as the Cardinals played, they were still hanging around a really good playoff team. Some picked this team to go far in the playoffs. And lets not forget, during the game the Cards had 2 dline men go down and on offense, their 3rd string starter went down and they were having a 4th string linemen playing out there. And as bad as the offense was, they allowed 1 sack all game. It was a bad time for the sack, but Hutchinson was going to get his. Yet, only 1 friggin sack all game. This morning I listened to Bickley, who I dislike big time. "Oh they beat up the Cards stats wise". He was talking about time of possession. But he didn't go into why it was bad.
Because for some reason the Cardinals abandoned the run early in this game. You cant sit there and tell me the run game sucked, Connor had 9 carries ALL GAME. At one point I don't think they ran it much if at all second half. It was pass after pass after pass. And it wasn't just take what they give you pass. KM was just chucking it down field. Bickley said nothing about that. I haven't watched the whole game yet, but it felt like KM was like, oh you want me to force it to MHJ? Well here you go! It was like Kobe in the second half against the Suns in the playoffs when people were complaining he was a ball hog. That is my opinion BTW. But they abandoned the run, the offense became one dimensional and it was 3 and out, 3 and out.
The Lions saw this and was loading the box. Gannon seemed desperate and scared for some reason. In the 3rd quarter with a easy chip shot field goal he goes for it on 4th and 1. Then 12 minutes left in the 4th, still down 20-10, he goes for it on Cards side of the field on 4th and 6. The players did not play well, but the decisions by the coaches were a bigger issue to me. But yes, it was a ugly game and it showed the Cards just do not have the talent to push them over the edge in tough situations. It also shows the coaches seem to panic in the same tough situations. They are close though IMO, they could of easily laid down, the defense, but they kept it going and as mentioned, over and over again the Cards had a chance and they just miffed it.
Bad plays, bad play calling, bad decisions, weird decisions. Like chucking it to MHJ double covered. It just seemed KM was trying to prove a point. I dunno, maybe it was just me feeling that. But this team is almost there, they just need to go out and get the talent in the off season. Just think if they had a good pass rush in this game. That's how close they are. Anyway, that's my thoughts on this game. A tough and ugly loss, but they still hung in there like week 1. They just aren't there yet on that talent. Offensively they have the talent, but relying on a rookie MHJ, he just needs more time in the NFL and more reps with KM.
BTW I want to say for the first time, in the back of the mind I have started to think KM is not the answer for this team. I have always felt he is the franchise QB, but after yesterday, just feels like he has the tools, but not the size and physicality to take this team to the next level. But again, that is just my opinion. Just could be the loss making me feel down about the team.

I think he runs on emotion and that sucks. This team though has the 7th rated offense and don't look now the D is 17th we just need to put it together. I still think they need to gameplan the TE more that will help open things up along with the slot wr. The running also helps put pressure on the D but we need more designed runs from Kyler. Don't want him taking hits but it really helps having that threat. I am very happy with the rebuild and coaches but just need a little better from petzing to not let KM get in to these funks. Kyler needs to grow a pair and take over sometimes. running for a few yds then out of bounds don't stress the defense the 10 yds or greater runs do. The D i wish was better against the run though but I am seeing improvement.I think we can beat anyone when playing we just need to play better and sometimes petzing to get Kyler going.

Tale of two QBs...Goff is terrible the the 23 passes he was asked to make half or more had no pass rush pressure and he played behind one of the touted best OLs. About a third of them he was the Goff that McVay could not play with. To his credit with 10 minutes left did very little as per passing and it wasn't needed. He followed the coaching at the end. Before the half he gave the game away and was bailed out by the refs. He then threw a INT in the second half. K1 was asked to throw the ball 34 times against the best pass rush in the NFL. He is a 65% completion QB and 2 to 1 TD to 1 INT as per career. He was at 50% completion rate with the 15% -20% of the catch-able throws dropped. There may have been an additional TD if the drops were less...who knows. His largest mistake of the game was the INT...bad on him...I understand the thought...the pass was under thrown and the defender behind took MHJ out...a better pass and MHJ would have had a chance or PI. He has been the man since HS and asked to pull the trigger on those opportunities. A swing and Amish. K1 is a leader and a good QB...he is still the Cards best QB option.

But yes, it was a ugly game and it showed the Cards just do not have the talent to push them over the edge in tough situations. It also shows the coaches seem to panic in the same tough situations. That seems to sum things up nicely; close, but just not close enough. We'll see what happens over the season, but if events keep repeating (against the stronger ranked opponents), then the fanbase will see and know where this team is at.

I'm not picking on you, this is life in the NFL as a fan. ( I honestly thought Redbird made that post when I first read it LOL) Kyler is the guy, will be the guy for quite a while now. He's turned the corner. Yes he has warts, he's not Mahomes. But he's probably better than 75 percent of the QB's in this league. That's just a number I threw out there. might be a little less . But he's the guy you can win with if you build a good team.

Not upset, or lashing out where you need to tell me to calm down just having a discussion. Last time I responded someone took it like I was upset or something. Hard to convey proper emotions through words. Anyway, enough word salad. Last week I dont think I said Kyler is the greatest. If you are generalizing fans, fine, but I have said over and over again Kyler had his best year as a Cardinals with a legit WR1. I also said this is a good year for the franchise to watch Kyler and if they decide he isnt the one, they now have the resources to go find a replacement QB. But yeah, I dont recall saying Kyler was the greatest. I was excited to finally see him have a legit WR1, or at least that was my thoughts going into the season. Was I excited last week about his performance? Yeah, but I also was concerned that this team had issues pass blocking and a big reason for success was Kylers scrambling ability. But its also nerve racking seeing his little legs run since he went down tearing his ACL in a non contact scramble 2 years ago. But yeah, just being truthful how I felt, I also said it could be just being down about the loss.
