Last year I tried to get more in sync with the College football season and majored in on the Big Ten division, especially Illinois, Penn State and to a lesser extent Michigan. With thoughts of the draft ahead its so easy to become side-tracked (unless you are a dedicated supporter of a particular college team), hence this season I aim to 'do better' and focus on three teams and get more in tune with what's going on there, the player's, fans etc. - This might result in some 'hidden gem' player's coming to light, which are being overlooked by the main national media.
So, I am going for -
Illinois (Bit Ten) - I've developed a proper affection for them, especially their Head Coach, Bret Bielema. I like his entertaining style, he always talks straight up honest and is good to listen. So, I cannot abandon the Fighting Illinois. They had a great win yesterday against the strongly fancied Kansas Jayhawks at a packed sold-out stadium. I suspect the place was rocking. - Illinois are going places.
Ole Miss (SEC) - I cannot ignore the SEC any longer. Ole Miss. have a strong roster this time around and are going to surprise a few people. An easy win yesterday against weak opposition.
Syracuse Orange (ACC) - I'm going 'Orange Mad' and taking a punt on them. - A great win yesterday against Georgia Tech.
Why no West Coast you may ask? Well I reason many on the forum will follow and know lots more about these teams than I will be able to find, hence I decided to leave alone. I thought worthwhile of the forum having a dedicated College Football thread, where members can add their own thoughts and observations about their own favored teams.
Post away, when and as you please...

Ole Miss has interesting situation. Ohio St stole Quinton Judkins- RB from the Rebels, so Rebs will focus more on pass game with Jaxson Dart, the ex USC QB leading them. As for Ohio State, they are stacked. They have leading college payroll with their starting players earning 26 million in endorsements. That's why Judkins transferred there. Ohio St now has the top 2 RBs in college football, in Judkins and Henderson, plus the huge running QB that transferred from Kansas St. Ohio St. is the only team out of the SEC that I think is worth a damn. Speaking of the SEC, LSU and Oklahoma look underwhelming. Texas looks strong. Ole Miss, Auburn and Bama will probably be biggest wildcards this year. As for the situation I'm watching the closest, it's Nebraska. Nebraska's QB is getting comparisons to Mahomes. nypost.com/2024/08/31/sports/nebraskas-dylan-raiola-goes-viral-for-similarities-to-patrick-mahomes/The kid looks great so far this season, but his arm doesn't look near as strong as Mahomes. But since he's still young, maybe arm strength will end up being closer than I think

Devongent...looks like the cliffs Moher in the background. I stayed a few days just north of there a bit south of the 12 Bens mountains. When we were in Buncrana we took a drive to Fort Dunree and met a great bartender I gave a Card stocking hat to...he was an NFL fan who would watch while he was closing at night.
It is interesting the pull the NFL has in fans internationally.
I have loved the NFL since about 5 years old. I fell in love with college FB after attending live games in 1992 and it grew to even going to games for mini-vacations. I enjoy watching any FB, but there is nothing like a good college game live. I have been to games live in Glendale and have enjoyed them. My go to is college FB live.
Personally, I follow several teams in college and at FCS and FBS levels. The coaching trees are interesting. The different trends in schemes is also an interesting study.
NIL and the transfer portal are changing things. I live in the NW and the western teams are what I follow the most. I always keep and eye on players from TX and FL...many HS players from CA are where many NFL QBs come from. AZ HS is producing many NFL QBs now. NFL recruits start in HS...backtracking many NFL players...their paths is another interesting study.
Over programs, I tend to follow HCs and players and a few programs...I have season tickets at a FBS school and also enjoy tailgating and the relationships with the ones who we sit in the area we have seats.
Thanks for highlighting the college level...it is where the players come from and part of the NFL's success.

I haven't got the will or capacity to deep dive too much, hence I gravitate to the bigger college programs. From experience the real big fish (Georgia, Ohio State etc.) are researched to death, hence I am not going to major on one of those this time around. I prefer those just underneath, where you can have a 'star player', such as with Johnny Newton from Illinois last time (I still wish we'd drafted him!). Full credit to your 'lower down the tree' teams and players. That takes a lot of dedication.

One to pencil in your diary; September 23rd, Illinois at Nabraska. - Should be a good QB match-up contest with Luke Altmyer on the ascendency. Illinois take it in overtime with Luke Altmyer throwing four TD's. It seems a real cracker and plenty of drama. apnews.com/article/illinois-nebraska-score-ce565ab5a2f85df324e733b9171725b5Next up: Penn State on the road. If they should win that one, the national press with start to take full notice.

DE Carter is 6'3" and 260. That's ideal for multiple D positions. He's continues doing well for Penn State thru October. 1st Rd in the Draft by April 2025? Maybe.
