From viewing the shortened HOF game these new KO and Return Rules seem to be mostly meh to me. Yes, the starting positions for The O's was avged to be 5 yds furth up field than the old rules. Which was the new rules just a few short years ago.
Runners getting hit the same as the old rules and old old rules.
This pandering to the O's starting field position is reducing the game of Football for this old timer.
Yes, it will increase scoring in games overall, but that is taking away the Great defensive battles that were just as much a part of the NFL game as is any scoring drive of the past.
Is the NFL becoming the New Arena FOOTBALL League? Looks that way to me.
What are your thoughts Cardinal Forum members? Is the NFL a better game with these new new KO Rules?

The HOF game is not a good example of a real game. So I will withhold judgment on the new KO rule until all PS games are done. I think by mid-season the NFL will have enough data to justify the new KO rule. The old rule was a dude and waste of clock time.

I thought I would put this here for any that didn't see the game or just parts of it like me. "Every return from first game with modified kickoff rules | 2024 Hall of Fame Game"
linkHere is an article for more informatiom... what-we-learned-about-new-kickoff-rule-from-hall-of-fame-game/As said, I only saw parts of the game, but I believe there were two penalties called. I think both were for players moving too soon. When they announced the rule change, I really wasn't for it. Since, then I have decided to wait and see. What I saw from this game, it didn't swing my thoughts one way or the other. I'll have to see more...

I think I’m going to enjoy seeing far more returns, and an increase in the importance of special teams play. I expect I’ll hate the flags for early movement, but over time that should get ironed out. It will be interesting to see what wrinkles ST coaches on both sides of the play will think up.

I think that I'm going to like it. The original kickoff is a dead play/waste of time.

I think that I'm going to like it. The original kickoff is a dead play/waste of time. That is one thing I got to admit and why I chose to change my opinion from I don't like it to let's wait and see. You could go grab a bite to eat and not miss anything with the old kick off rules. With this new rule.... something might actually happen. That may be a little harsh, but not far from the truth. The rule may need to be tweaked for this or that reason but let's see what happens. For now, I'm open minded...

Ron Wolf had best take on new KO and runback schemes.

I think that I'm going to like it. The original kickoff is a dead play/waste of time. The Original KO was not the 2000 type KO. The NFL needs to go back the 1960's Rules for KO's. Kickin the ball at the 40 was Not the original placement spot. It needs to go back to the 30 yd line. Then there would be less kicking out of end zone, ie the Wasted Play. Then you could have plays were the ball is downed inside the 10yd line or less. How many are still around that remember the Tony Dorset 99 yd TD run from line of scrimmage? It was set up by Bakken and ST downing the ball at the Cowboy's 1 yd line. Unfortunately for the Cards the Great field position the Cards ST gave the D, to defend from, was wasted by a bad D set on that Cowboy 1st play. And set up a Record TD run from line of Scrimmage. Now with these new rules you will never see that type of play ever again. Cause now 99.9% of all drives will start at the 25 or 30 yd line. Arena Football is here today.

Kicking from the 30 yard line would be cool. I'd be all for it. I think the NFL is trying to reduce injuries though. From what ai gather, many were coming from the KO.
