Probably the most exciting RB I have witnessed running for the Big Red (before David Johnson). But oh those fumbles!

Terry was fun to watch. Otis Anderson had his moments too, but Terry to me was the better running back. Can’t wait to see David again this year. Hope he can get to that 1000/1000 goal.

Lots of good post SMITTY....of coarse I got to like this one.....Metcalf is my avatar.
Believe it or not, my very first post on the old message board included this video.
Terry is my all-time favorite player. Sure you could say others were better, but I can't think of anyone who was more exciting. Anytime he touched the ball something big could happen. I admit my memory could be failing, but I remember one play against the eagles.
Terry faced off Bill Bergey. They both stopped for an instance....then Terry made a juke and just ran around him.
Terry wasn't a power runner, he just went were they was not. I've never seen a RB avoid tackles like Terry

Terry wasn't a power runner, he just went were they was not. I've never seen a RB avoid tackles like Terry He was certainly deceptive as a runner. He was hard to arm tackle and hard to get a clean hit on him at the same time, he had that nice stiff arm that was used quite a bit in his style of running. He sorta reminds me of what we currently see in David Johnson, power, shifty, break away speed. I really wish the Metcalf video would include just a couple of those untimely fumbles...just to keep his memory grounded in reality. LOL There was certainly alot to like about his contributions to those mid-seventies teams.

But yeah, for all of the good stuff he did, his tendency for fumbles was his achilles heel. He sometimes carried that ball ( as they would say back in the day ) like a loaf of bread. No doubt it helped his balance when dodging tacklers, but very dangerous. I can't recall the exact game, but I remember one time he fumbled in a crucial situation. He was so distraught, he ran off the field in disgust with himself. Jim Hart saw this and ran after him trying to console him. And you are right. He didn't necessarily run over people, but because he was so shifty with great balance, it was hard to get a clean hit. He tends to just bounce off of people. You see it time and again in that video. This may be the best example.... hard to tackleAnd just for fun.....do you remember this.... bombTerry was not only my favorite player because he was so good, but there was every reason to believe he was a great guy......well except for blowing up airplanes.....lol.

Once we added heavy duty Jim Otis to the same backfield it seemed unfair to have such a balanced attack with Metcalf and Otis along with Hart's passing game. Just image the current Cardinals adding a punishing FB that gains 1000 yds a season along side lightning quick David Johnson...with a slinger like Rosen.
