I was wrong on him. I thought too risky and to be truthful might end up being right after all. He's been clean for one year. Lots of time to do naughty things LOL I also think we did well with Paris as our future LT. The Cardinals have not done well picking guys with legal problems. Honey Badger was the exception. We know now that Carter was a steal at #9 in 2023. I cringed so badly when they took Robert Nkimdeche. (I wanted Kelly the center Indy took earlier) He had a posse all dressed in yellow come out, my god what the hell. LOL. He was a troubled guy in college and it just continued. He never really had any good streak of play. He'd make one sack and the forum would explode "he's arrived!!!". umm, no he hasn't.

Bringing up all his questions outside of character do not help anyone defending his cause. He had a ton of questions about him. I do not remember anyone questioning talent. I won't name names, but we had plenty of board members questioning his talent. From what I recall, their big beef was he wasn't an 'edge' guy, so they discount ALL DL who play on the inside. I tried explaining how absurd that was because elite interior DL are almost impossible to find. A few posters beside myself tried to explain that a lot of interior value, such as eating double teams to keep LB clean, doesn't show up on stat sheets. But many of these folks are the same ones who prioritize WR's, not just in the current year's draft, but in previous drafts. And many of these same folks admitted they never even watched the kid play. Dan Williams was hugely valuable for us and he was only a 3+ sack per year guy. But he required double teams. When you can find a NT/interior DT that can get you 8-10 sacks per year, plus shut down the run, you should run to the podium to take that guy. It's the same reason I wanted Quennan Williams. You also have to prioritize Elite Interior guys for another reason. All things being equal, most QBs hate interior pressure more than edge pressure. That's why missing on Carter bugs me so much. It's less about missing on Carter, and more about fans routinely discounting interior pass rush/run support. We've missed on three in a row. The only way a team can build an elite defense is having either an Elite NT, or having a DT who is big enough to pick up the load. For example, Dan Williams was the last decent NT we had. The main reason we did okay with Frostee is because we had CC, who is an elite run stuffing DT/DE. And you've got to have someone like CC, Chris Jones or Fletcher Coxx, Reggie White if you don't have an elite NT. We've drafted some decent LBs and speedy edge guys but it's been a long time since we prioritized a true NT. Not sure how people do not understand the impact of solid inside guy, especially after Aaron Donald. I will not blame people for having concerns on Carter. He showed a bad gas tank and questionable character. He is clearly motivated and we shall see how his career goes. It was more than the Cardinals that passed on him. He may get comfortable and forget the criticism and then the ugly self reappear. I wish nothing but the best for him. Cards cannot afford to miss on any more picks. He was too risky in my opinion and I will not ever blame them for passing. They have passed on much worse in my opinion and I was devastated at the time. This was not one of them.

Who are you referring to? The player that Monti passed on?

Eagles had a fantastic locker room for Jalen Carter and a excellent Dline rotation to keep him fresh. He'll thrive in that environment like most players will. I would of had huge concerns here and think we made the right pick with Paris Johnson still.
That said, Newton being selected here with our 2nd first pick (likely needing trade up) is a major win in my book.
