I am going to bring up a comparison. Not WR to WR. Not QB to QB. But WR to QB. Let me start with the QB's.
QB's
Caleb Williams
Drake Maye
Jayden Daniels
J.J. McCarthy
In the list above, is there any doubt Chicago will draft Caleb? I think I can safely say that it is a 95% chance for Chicago to take Caleb over the other 3 QB's. Check the mock drafts here:
How many of the mocks have Caleb going to the Bears? Almost all of them. Now my question is this, is Caleb that much better than Maye, Daniels or McCarthy? From all I have read on the internet, Maye and Daniels are not that far behind Caleb. McCarthy is a late riser in the mock drafts. Could the reason Caleb is predicted to be the first overall pick, is because he is better than the other 3 regardless of how much better?
WR's
Marvin Harrison Jr.
Malik Nabers
Rome Odunze
Brian Thomas Jr.
If you look at the mock drafts, almost every mock draft has Marvin going before the other 3. Are Caleb and Marvin the top player at their position? From the mock drafts, it seems to be so. There have been posts on here implying that Nabers or Odunze might be better than Marvin. If that was the case, why aren't they projected to be drafted before Marvin? All the mocks on that site, are an individual posting the mock. Are they all wrong when they project Caleb to go as the first QB and Marvin to go as the first WR?
What is my point? Have you heard or read any rumors that Chicago would trade out for extra picks to someone that really wants Caleb? They need a QB badly. And if Caleb is projected as the best QB in the draft, why would they pass on that for extra picks? With our current WR Roster, we know for a fact that we need a #1 WR. Some of you are saying let's trade down and get the second or third best WR. Do you think that Chicago is thinking about trading down and taking the second or third best QB? Hmm...Chicago is able to take the best QB of 4 QB's projected to go in the first round. Would Chicago trade down to #11 or #12 for extra picks and end up with J.J. McCarthy or even miss out on him and have to go with Michael Penix or Bo Nix? Does not seem like a very good idea, wouldn't you agree? Then, why would we think differently than this thought process?
What happens if we trade down for extra picks and get Nabers or Odunze? They would be the Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye equivalent. Sure it could work out. But why not take the best WR on the board as Chicago is taking the best QB in the draft? From the dialogue I have heard on NFL Radio, when it comes to McCarthy, if a team trades up with us to get him, that team better be positive they think he is worth all the draft capital they have to give up. The analysts on NFL Radio do not believe McCarthy is the same caliber of the other 3 QB's and worth giving away too much for him.
We would have to trade down with the Giants to get either Nabers or Odunze. But do the Giants have the picks to make that trade up?
Giants picks: #6, #47, #70, 107
If the Giants trade up, it would more than likely be to get McCarthy. They would be trading up for the 4th best QB. Wouldn't this be similar if we traded up from #11 or #12 pick to get Brian Thomas Jr.? Would Marvin, Nabers, and Odunze be gone by #11 or #12 pick? That would mean if we want to be sure and get Brian Thomas Jr...we would have to trade up because then what if a team drafts him before #11 or #12. If we wait at #11 or #12 pick to get Brian because Odunze and Nabers are gone, what if Monti decides there is a BPA that is a better choice than drafting Brian? Do you see where I am going here? What WR's are worth the #23 or #27 pick? Xavier Worthy? Adonai Mitchell? Would that not be equal to Chicago trading down and passing on Caleb and eventually end up with Michael Penix or Bo Nix?
My fear is that the Giants will not offer enough to make a trade up. Minnesota is probably the only team that can offer enough for the trade to happen. If that happens, more than likely it means the Giants will roll with Daniel Jones. Be sure if that happens, they will take either Nabers or Odunze. And there is no way the Bears will pass on either Nabers or Odunze to pair up with Caleb with the #9 pick. To jump up in front of the Bears, we would have to probably give up at least one of our 3rd round picks or maybe even our 2nd round pick. So, if we have to give up a 2nd round pick to get Odunze or Nabers, isn't a 2nd round pick this year equal to a 1rst round pick next year? From the posts I have seen on here, it sounds that the picks next year are equal to less than the same pick this year? So, do we really end up with a first round pick next year if we have to give up our 2nd round pick this year?
We are really taking a gamble if we trade down to #11 Minnesota, #12 Denver or #13 Las Vegas. We might end losing out on Marvin, Nabers, Odunze and possibly Thomas. I only say Thomas because with the #11 pick or other two, Monti might think it is better to use that pick on a non WR position.
I have pretty much eliminated the Giants from trading with us...
So, trading down too far could eliminate the chance for us to draft Marvin, Nabers or Odunze. And I just do not see us taking Thomas at #11. And more than likely he will be gone by #23 and #27 picks if we trade with Minnesota. If we by some chance trade with Denver or the Raiders, we would only have two first round picks not three this draft.
