I don't share the same hate for PP as many of you do. He was a cornerstone for this organization for years and his criticisms at the time were on point. He wanted to win and was critical of Steve Keim and the direction of the front office. He wanted a trade because he wanted to win. He cared about this organization and wanted to win here.
I see it as a problem when good players do NOT speak up. I'm glad he did. Those of you criticizing PP don't understand him at all. The guy loved AZ and the Cardinals. He dealt with a lot of bad years when he was arguably the best corner in the NFL for a long time. A lot of players don't care about winning but he did. He wanted to help take this organization to the next level. I'm never going to fault the guy for that.
Looking back, can any of you argue that PP was not right? His criticisms of the front office were on point. That's ultimately what led to his departure. Can you blame the guy?
To answer the question, no I would not sign him. He is well past his prime. We are a rebuilding team and don't have use for someone like PP. A team that should sign him is a veteran team like KC, SF or Dallas.
Your memory and mine differ. Yes, PP was very good at what he did - for a while. He was an excellent return man - for a while. He was a good father figure to Matthieu, for a while. Then he became more a diva who skillfully avoided contact with anyone who could conceivably give him a bruise. It was comical at times and there were comments on forums to that effect.
There is much to criticize Keim for, and PP may have expressed some discontent at times, but examples do not come to mind. Can you provide some examples which support your claim that PP is to be admired for such criticism about Keim or management, but which did not occur after his PED suspension?
I have no hesitation supporting players when I feel they are truly being unfairly treated or when reasonably severe conditions exist. I do disagree with such disagreement being publicly conducted in other than a fair manner, or for reasons of harvesting support at the expense of full truth, or when done to exert pressure, not improve the problem.
PP's mentoring of Matthieu became more antagonistic toward management, and IMO was one factor in Matthieu departing after his injury. Then PP was caught by the NFL drug use police, and as a result was suspended for several months. Did he use those drugs because he wanted to win, or because he felt he could not perform without them? The team lost his services for that period, a direct impact on the season - a fact you omit. He wanted and expected to be paid for that transgression of the rules, and the team (Keim?) said no. THAT was the big reason for his blasting of the management and by association the entire team. He wanted special treatment and did not get it. For this you think he was mistreated and misunderstood? It was all reported at the time. If erroneous, please correct me with quotes from that period, not opinions. (opinions are fine, but do not substitute for facts - mine included)
IMO, PP left as much to avoid living daily with reminders of his transgressions as for being "insulted" by not getting special treatment after his conscious breaking of NFL rules. He cut the cord as much as Keim or anyone else did, and had he been more tactful and accepting of his own faults, might have remained with the Cardinals longer.
Lastly, there is a big difference between "hate" and dislike or disapproval. And there is a big difference between wanting to win and cheating to do so. PP did the latter.
IMHO

I started this thread just to see what people thought. For those of you that did not see his week on the NFL Network it was clear that he was all about me me to the point of where it seems he was almost embarrassed but it did stop him from trying to sell himself. He even declared himself the third greatest player to ever played in lsu.
Having said that, some team will sign him this year. For whatever reason he thinks he needs to play one more year to make it into the Hall of Fame. Personally I would not vote for him for the Hall of Fame but nowadays it seems like they put practically anybody in. Hindsight is 20/20 of course the Cardinals should have traded him before he left. But who knew he was taking peds and who knew he would react the way he did when he was caught?
If I were a team looking at signing him I could deal with his attitude but I would be concerned that it's physical skills have diminished to the point of where he could not be effective. I would definitely have to know what his 40 time is now.

If PP would have a willingness to tackle...we would have been a better team. IMO

What's the starting salary for an entry-level DB coach?
ZipRecruiter.com says about $750 a week, or somewhere between $32,000 to $44, 000 per year. Offer him that $.
He ain't welcome as a player in ARZ.
