Seems John struck again.

This shouldn't be surprising. Until we know for a fact who our QBOTF is, why break the bank on free agents?

Yeah there is no need for big name signings right now. Still early in the rebuild. They want to do the majority building through the draft. They are still more than a player or 2 away from fixing their issues, so why wrap up all that free money into just 1 or 2 big contracts? Just try to find some decent depth players who can contribute via FA, then see what you got through the draft and then maybe next season they will start hitting FA harder. I still stand by 3-4 years in the rebuild.

Can anybody explain why it appears that they are not going to go after a top level left guard in free agency? And about that I'm going to explain it to me in terms of how they're going to be able to properly evaluate the little dude and try to win ball games. I understand not spending the surplus of cat money on just a few players when the team has an overall crappy roster but if we're not going to find out it's a little dude can take us to the super bowl by giving him every opportunity to do so then what the hell are we doing?
As I said many times before it's simply does not matter how bad the defense is until the quarterback position is settled. It's very clear that we do not want the little dude to get knocked around is it a very strong run game is his best friend I've tried to be optimistic about this new regime and I'm actually hoping that I'm just overreacting and that there will be some big news in the next few days. In fact I was so optimistic that Monty would find us a very very good left guard, a serviceable tackle and an average guy to be our top cornerback next year. That's all I wanted out of free agency. One of the stud defensive lineman would be great also but I would rather have the guard first.

Maybe they already decided they arent sticking with the little dude and they just buying time until his contract is more team friendly.

They could have traded the little dude. Especially it seems now where there's more and more trades where the training team picks up part of the salary so they could have moved the little dude no problem.

Especially it seems now where there's more and more trades where the training team picks up part of the salary so they could have moved the little dude no problem. Not necessarily that they didn't like the QB class this year, but with the 4th pick it seems unlikely we would have a chance at the top dogs, PLUS a better chance that we can move down in the draft order somewhat and benefit by getting two or more very good players instead. Much still depends on who the first three picks will be. A big surprise among them or a trade up by an unexpected team could change our plans and those of all who follow our pick.
Then add to that JG seems to be happy with Tune, and may yet draft another QB candidate this year, one who is less popular now. And as a third reason, the dead money hit is less if we were to part with Murray next year and let him earn his pay this year.
It appears that the Cards are not in a hurry to make any moves away from Murray, and may want to see how well he can perform for a full year -- if he can stay healthy, that is. Last year was not a true test for what he can do for the team, and hopefully he will have better protection and more tall targets - a better set of conditions for him to succeed or fail.

Can anybody explain why it appears that they are not going to go after a top level left guard in free agency? Circa $20 million per annum contract...? Monty would find us a very very good left guard Could still do. It would appear that only 'a good Guard' is costing a fortune now. There has been positional inflation at Guard and gone are the days where they were undervalued and certainly underpaid. My own expectation level is fixed; one Tackle and one on the interior (Guard or Center), be it via the draft or Free Agency. - I still think moving Hjalte Froholdt from Center to Left Guard is a possibility, who would then give valuable experience next to a rookie Tackle (or Paris Johnson Jr).
