Not living in Arizona, it's always been hit and miss trying to see the Cardinal games. It makes it tough to be a fan. Having said that, I always knew that I would at least get to see every play-off game no matter where I lived. Well....until this year. Fans Rightfully Crush NFL and NBC for Putting AFC Playoff Game Exclusively on Peacock
I have no doubt, the NFL has determined they can make more money this way. A quote from this Article"The Wall Street Journal reported in May that NBCUniversal reached a one-year deal worth around $110 million with the NFL for Peacock to have exclusive rights to the Saturday night 8 p.m. game for wild-card weekend, the first time an NFL playoff game has been only available through streaming."110 million for one game....are you kidding me? What's next....a pay per view Super Bowl? It may be smart now, but in the long run, I believe it will hurt the fan base.

NBC got lucky with the Dolphins and Chiefs in this WC Saturday game. $110 million for streaming rights is recoverable in the 1st half. What would happen if it was LAC and NYJ with 2 backup QBs we can't name? I agree, the fees for games are stacking up. I'm going to trim my streaming services right after the SB game. I don't need Cox's NFL nothing show on Sunday's and the NFL Red Zone, as examples. That's $20-30 a month saved right there. YT and Sunday Ticket is going to cost me $450 in 2024. I'm stuck with that service which I found out is 2-3 minutes behind real game time every broadcast. I'm also getting Amazon Prime + TNF for an unknown fee. I admit that I'm an NFL junkie. I can't shake the habit. Damned NFL!

I just thought I would make one more post about this subject. Since this thing came to my attention, I have read many articles about whether it's smart, dumb or just plain hurtful to many fans. I'm in the hurtful category, but that's not the point. Out of all the articles I have read about this, this article seems to be one of the more non-biased either way. It just gives the facts. Peacock’s NFL game led almost 3 million people to subscribe. Here’s how long it needs them to stick around. As said, I don't like it, but that's just me. I don't like spending money for things that were once free. Although that's a little bit of a misnomer. The cost of buying anything that was advertised during a free to watch NFL game has to include the price they paid to advertise. I believe in free enterprise. Clearly the NFL and Peacock has decided they can make more money this way. I hate it, but at the same time, I wouldn't like to be told how I can market my product. All businesses try to maximize their profits. It is what it is. It may be that in the short to medium term, both will earn more money. In my opinion, viewership will eventually go down due to cost. Can they make up for fewer viewers by charging more for the viewers that can and will pay more. To be honest I don't know. For me, I could afford to pay whatever it takes to see every game. I'm not rich, but I do a have enough disposable income that would cover it and still be able to pay my other bills. For now, I refuse to pay extra. Will that change....maybe, but maybe not. I love my football, but I love other things as well....I always try to spend my money wisely. Do I buy a football game or a nice juicy steak....lol
