I know there are a few of us that are Cards fans dating back to the St Louis days, for both baseball and football. To the other Cards baseball fans like me, I'm curious if any are happy with the off season moves made. Last year's huge move to get a new catcher was a huge disappointment. I liked the move when it happened but the production was meh. I'm hoping he turns things around this season.
This off season everyone knew we needed started pitching. I knew we had no shot at Ohetani, but I'm pleasantly surprised by the recent signings of Sonny Gray, Gibson and the return of Lance Lynn. Anyone else excited? I still think we are going to end up trading our gold glove third baseman at some point.

Some years I could tell you everything about the Cardinals baseball team. The baseball thrill of my fan life was standing on 2nd base in an empty Busch Stadium and imagining myself tagging up on a flyball and heading for 3rd base. That was a heck of a private tour. Last summer '23, I couldn't care less about the baseball Cardinals. I lost someone special to me. Mom. She is still an avid Cardinals fan and MLB expert from above now. Perhaps '24 will be different for the Cardinals baseball team. I will comment here from time to time if others join in the thread. Last season, I posted with Forum members about the Diamondback's lucky run to the playoffs. If the Cardinals can sign one more excellent pitcher in '24, they might get well fast. Without good starting pitching, the Cardinals can't compete for a long season. The 29yo righty fireballer at the Orioles, Shintaro Fujinami, was recently named as a 4th target to join Gray, Gibson, and Lynn. His contract is doable. Offer $5M. That's a 20% premium. He's also 6'6" and reminds me a little of the famous 6'10" Randy Johnson, aka "The Big Unit." I like what MLB is doing to speed up the game and use technology to improve on-field decisions. Umpires and their eyeballs are quaint relics of the past. I'd love to see electronic eyes calling balls and strikes, as an experiment only, with the home plate umpire calling balls and strikes. After a few days, we would all see the value of the electric eye compared to the umpire's judgment. The MLB is in trouble financially, in my view. The huge advertiser's dollars and the player's contracts are hurting the smaller market teams. The owners and players have to figure out a way to save the sport. Otherwise, there will be two good teams. The Dodgers and the Yankees. And then the wannabes with the Moneyball rosters.

Not sure I like all the in game changes though. If I were pitching I wouldn't want to be rushed when pitching. As a base stealer who was fast, I haven't decided whether I'd have like it. Something tells me Ricky Henderson would love the new set up but I'm not so sure. I hadn't heard of the recent Orioles pitcher. I'll have to look into it.

Thanks for the posting. I liked Whitey's management style. He was successful baseball man. RIP Whitey!
