Watching the replays on 5. I noticed on the interceptions KM was staring the receiver down.Bad for rookie…..unforgivable for a 5 year vet
Me too. Old habits for KM die hard.

Not much discussion today of Hollywood Brown again going down with injury issues. He was active today and then before even getting targeted left the game early re-aggregating his heel. The remaining Cardinals WR’s were targeted 13 times with only 4 receptions for 20 total yards…2 by Moore and 2 by Dortch. Lots of incompletes, and coaches will need to determine when it was Kyler’s fault and when it was the route or the receiver. The Oline seemed to have a good game despite 3 sacks, and it was good to see Paris put together a solid game. Only one pressure allowed against a very good 49ers front.
We clearly need an upgrade at several WR spots, including a legit WR1. Disappointed in how little Wilson was targeted, and his targets were nearly all uncatchable out of bounds. Kyler once again connected well with the tight ends, suggesting he does benefit from taller receivers.

Sunday's game vs. SF was a good evaluation for Ossenfort and Gannon to dig into later, perhaps in February. Going against the best team in the NFL highlighted the O/D/ST players that are okay and plays that work when executed. This is a team sport so the scoreboard reflects the teamwork done and not done.
Offense: 29 points is enough to win most games. The offense clicked on the majority of plays. The running game was outstanding. The passing game was flat. There was almost no WR threat in 4 qtrs. Because the QB and the WRs are the biggest part of the passing game, the passing game deficit must be shared. Most of the deficit goes on the shoulders of the QB. Fifth-year QB Murray has some amazing skills. He has some terrible QB faults that are not fixable. Game Grade - C.
Defense: 45 points won't win many games. This defense has so many needs that it is impossible to identify 1-2 spots to upgrade. The one time the defense got to the QB, the defense was flagged for roughing the passer and dinged 15 yards. Receivers were open all over the field. Some receivers were not covered at all. The DC gets some of this blame. Game Grade - F.
Special Teams: Coverages were excellent. I saw no thinking errors, no playcall mistakes, and no glaring need to change people. Prater kicks ass. Game Grade - A.
Use the Draft to fix long-term problems (LTP). The needs = WR, OL, CB, LB, QB. Draft 2 and keep both of them.
Use the Free Agency to fix short-term problems (STP). The needs = Edge, DL, RB. Buy 2.

Sure cards need a new QB, but not now. No rush. Why waste draft capital when you can use it to build around the QB. A lot more positions in need. Plus Murray's contract sucks for the organization. Just keep him for another year or 2 until the contract is more friendly and at the same time build up other positions. That is one way to look at it and what I have been thinking, until today. They have free agency to fill some holes as well. One could say with all the extra draft capital they have this year, that this is the year to draft a QB, IF THEY LIKE ONE. The Texan’s pick might be the spot for that, although I would prefer top of second. Kyler will not play every game in 2024, mark my words. They need a top notch back up and a guy who could take over if Kyler fails. If Kyler works out and Nix is solid then trade him to a qb needy team, but I no longer would be upset if they went QB with one of their top three picks. Well your assuming they are going to try to win next year. Im assuming they will have another year where winning isnt a priority but improvement must be shown. So Kyler hurt or not, it doesnt matter IMO.

Off topic, looks like Josh Allen is rolling the Cowboys after just beating the Chiefs. Wasn't someone on the board talking about how much Allen sucked not long ago? Allen is good but today he wasn't needed to be anything more than a game manager. He threw for just 94 yards True. But Allen's long ball threat, and ability to run are part of the reason it helps their run game, which was what they excelled at today.

I’d quibble on the draft and FA only in saying I think we need a vet CB1 via free agency to lead the young CB room, and swap that with a rookie DL in the draft or two. DL is a LTP. We only have two under contract for 2024 if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have the Under Center:Shotgun stats because as I recall the first 2 productive drives had KM1 under center quite a bit ... then afterwards it almost seemed NEVER was Kyler under center including the 2 INT's ?

Does anyone have the Under Center:Shotgun stats because as I recall the first 2 productive drives had KM1 under center quite a bit ... then afterwards it almost seemed NEVER was Kyler under center including the 2 INT's ? Here is the data from NFL.com. See the site, see the tab Scores. Click the SF @ ARZ game. At the bottom of the scoring page is a .pdf file called "Gamebook." Open the file. The file is 20 pages and over 5 mb size. At page 10, the plays are listed. "Shotgun" formation is noted on every play that Murray was not under Center. 6 punts are NOT counted as plays in the totals. 72 plays total (punts not counted as plays). 14 plays under center. Shotgun-to-under-center ratio is 1.0 : 0.19444444444, or roughly 4/5th's of Murray's 72 snaps were in the 'Shotgun' formation. As SF pulled away on the scoreboard, Petzing almost stopped using Murray under center. Why? Murray is not effective under center. The run game was effective regardless of the Shotgun formation with 234 yards gained. First series. 8 plays. 3 under center. Second series. 6 plays. 2 under center. Third series. 8 plays. 0 under center. Fourth series. 11 plays. 5 under center. Fifth series. 4 plays. 0 under center. Sixth series. 4 plays. 0 under center (Tune was in for 1 play) Seventh series. 12 plays. 4 under center. Eighth series. 8 plays. 0 under center. Ninth series. 5 plays. 0 under center. Tenth series 12 plays. 0 under center.

HMMM - lets take a close look here at the 1st, 2nd, 4th & 7th drives which included some plays under center. 1st Drive - TD 2nd Drive - Drive moved to midfield and then out of shotgun, Kyler throws INT. Failure here is on the play preceding the INT Demercado dropped the ball on a swing pass. IN FACT - had they not gone for it here on 4th and 3, they were in range of Prater kicking a FG for another 3 pts. 4th Drive - 11 play drive and stalled at the 49er 25 - FG 7th Drive - 11 play drive and stalled at the 49er 25 - FG

Good teams seem to win more games than bad teams.

I just noticed something else in the Gamebook:
QB Purdy attempted zero rushes on Sunday. He took many snaps in Shotgun formation and some under Center.
We know Purdy can run. So, why did HC Shanahan keep his QB on a short leash all day?
