phys.org/news/2023-04-james-webb-space-telescope-images.htmlUh-oh. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is providing information that is upsetting the cosmology community. The "one" universe idea is already being questioned due to the realization that some newly discovered galaxies are too big and too old to have formed within the amount of time that the "one" universe has existed. Some of these newest discovered galaxies (6) are bigger and older than the Milky Way which is VERY BIG and VERY OLD and considered by some people to be the grand dad of all universes. So, it might be true that there is more than one universe. AKA the "multiverse!" JWST is providing vexing information that is hard to explain away. But cosmologists will try because their jobs and funding depend on holding the line on past theories.

When they launched this, they knew we were going to discover new things that may shatter what we thought we already knew. Obviously, they were right.
When it comes to the cosmos, we are only scratching the surface in trying to understand it all.
I'm not as pessimistic as you. I think the vast majority of cosmologists only want to understand it all. If that means they have to rethink their theory's, they will. To them, knowing what is real and what is not is far more important than anything else.
In my short life span, more than one theory had to be tossed out in favor of new evidence.
Even Einstein wasn't right about everything.
