Overall, hard to be unhappy with this draft. We got great guys for our offense and injected a bunch of talent into our secondary. While I'm not really faulting Monti for this (free agents were too expensive and not a deep class for edge), I don't think we will be entering the season with any real semblance of a pass rush. Granted, our free agent signings will help for the mere fact that teams will hopefully not be able to run all over us anymore. However, I do think we will ultimately need to be on the lock out for potential camp/cap casualties.

However, I do think we will ultimately need to be on the lock out for potential camp/cap casualties. Looking out for camp/cap casualties is a given, and this will be at multiple positions. If a good player is out there and can improve what we have already, then the FO will be try and sign him/them. Taking fall-out's from other teams (as and when the rosters are trimmed down) is part & parcel of the annual cycle of recruitment.

Yep. This team still has holes. 2 drafts in and I feel they are doing well. But they need at least another draft to help fix the defense. But the core is being slowly built. Just gonna continue being a bumpy ride for another 2 years

Okay…pump the brakes. What are factors that create a better pass rush. Better coverage and stopping the run to make teams one dimensional and creating more long yardage 3rd downs. With the addition of 5DBs in 2024…one in FA and four in the draft the coverage will be better in 2024. The addition of six DL players, four in FA and two in the draft. All the sudden there is the thought that the Barbarian, BJ and Collins will be bad with more help? weird…I must be missing something. Also the addition of Mack Wilson who is a pass rush specialist. I think we should hold the brakes on the pass rush concerns until we actually see what the additional 12+ defenders do to help. It will be a significant improvement over the 2023 31st defense in scoring allowed.

We drafted 4 defensive backs and only two defensive lineman. I would emphasized the DL first as it starts in the trenches. There was no reason to draft a safety and we didn't need 3 corners. I liked the two DL we drafted but we need more help at defensive tackle and stopping the run.
I don't expect us to win much more than 4 games next year as well. This team was completely devoid of talent. I gave this draft B to B-. We addressed some needs but ignore the two most important areas interior offensive line and defensive tackle. For most teams, a rebuild is 3 years. For us, it will 4-5 years. That's how bad this team was/is.

Steve Keim would trade down and amass picks only to make poor selections. None of the DB's we added were particularly noteworthy and most were late round picks. Even Melton didn't make most top 10 corner pre-draft lists.
None of the free agents we added are particularly special. In essence we added one standout DL in Robinson whereas Xavier is a typical 5th round pick which are gambles.
I'm surprised you have so much confidence simply because we added bodies. It matters what type of players you add.
Sure, we should wait to see what happens but if the pass rush isn't strong, no one should be surprised. It was evident based on the above. I don't anticipate our pass rush being strong and we are still 1-2 drafts away from truly improving the defensive line. We still need 1-2 more legitimate defensive tackles. I still see Robinson more as an end.

None of the FA are anything special, you are right, but they arent suppose to be special. They are hard working good depth guys who do not miss many games. They have plenty of guys at dline, they were lacking big time at CB. But the point is, there is no rush. This team will suck this year, but they should suck a little less. Now 2-3 years from now if they are still in the same position, there is a problem. But from what I can see, the new regime is setting up the core players. Then once they have a solid core with mainly young players, they can then go get some big name vets via FA to accommodate and put everything together. But they saw a bigger need at CB and better possibilities than what was available at DL. It could be other reasons too, how they feel they would fit inside their system. Maybe they dont like their work ethics or saw something that they didnt like while scouting. Maybe they arent coachable and the players they got were just better fits. I just hope it all works out, but not a big issue they didnt get a bunch of DL in this draft. They still have time to build it up. And while they are building it up, as you can see, that cap space is clearing and the bad contracts are shedding and they will be ready to pay for talent when its time.

I was upset to see leki fotu sign with another team. In my humble opinion he had the greatest name in the history of sports. You see in an African dialect the word fotu means penis so...
He became my girlfriend's favorite player and I'm not joking about that either...

Not sure why there is a narrative of the three FA DL players are bodies and not good additions. I am confident based on actual changes in last year or since JG and Monti took over. I would not use SK examples for what Monti does or JG’s ability to get more out of defenders than most DC’s in the NFL. I enjoy the positive changes and have a great deal of respect for the total positive change.
