Official Game Day Thread Week 17 Arizona Cardinals @ Atlanta Falcons
This week I want to start off by thanking my fellow moderators
for filling in for me as I was dealing with a dead battery on my computer.
I had to special order the battery. Then i was out of state on Christmas vacation
while all this went down. PutMEin did a great job as usual on last week's
Game Day Thread.
Now, we are down to two games left in what many will call
one of the most disappointing seasons in Cardinal's history.
This reminds me of the 1977 Cardinals season to some extent.
Don Coryell another innovative college coach took the Cardinals
from 4-9-1 his 1st year to 10-4, 11-3. 10-4 and 7-7 before he was fired
in 1977. Injuries plagued that team mostly in the secondary and Coryell
had to deal with a terrible GM George Boone and Bill Bidwill as the owner.
I was at that last game (Cards vs Bucs).I stood on the Cardinals sideline by the wall
as coach Joe Gibbs talked to some long time friends. I was right there for a long time.
He thought Iwas part of the family in my Cardinals gear. when he said
" Our guy knows where he stands" " We will see what happens".
He knew then and I knew then it was over. Don Coryell was fired after the game.
Many Cardinals fans were mad at Mr. Bidwill and George Boone for blowing it all up
Sound Familiar?.
Sunday's Cardinals game against the Atlanta Falcons brings back memories of
our playoff game vs these same Falcons in 2008. What a thrilling game that
was for Cardinals fans that season as the team marched its way to the Super Bowl.
Below, fans can view the link with highlights of that game. At the end of the day
the Cardinals went on to win by a score of 30-24.
Fourth String Quarterback David Blough gets the start vs Atlanta this coming Sunday.
He is super excited to have his chance to lead the Cardinals to victory
against the Falcons. PutMEin has a great breakdown of David Blough's
NFL career on the Game Week Thread. Check it out.
The question to many long time fans and those of the draft is
Do we tank the season? At 4-11 things can't get a whole lot worse
or can it? The Falcons are 5-10 on the season and are playing at home.
Atlanta is a 3.5 point favorite to send the Cardinals even deeper into the
abyss of a terrible season. It will be good to continue to watch
younger players like Cameron Thomas and Trey McBride get
valuable game experience.
Atlanta will have rookie QB Desmond Ridder as its starter
for Sunday's game. The Falcons are on a youth movement
as one of the youngest teams in the league. They also
have a chance to have a 5-3 record at home with a win.
Another rookie to watch on the Falcons is Tyler Allgeier .
He has over 800 yds rushing and nearly a 5.0 avg per carry.
Rookie WR, Drake London has one of the highest PFF grades
He has nearly 700 yds receiving and 4 TDs on the season.
In conclusion, a lot of young players have their opportunity
to impress coaches and management this weekend.
