GAME WEEK 17 ARIZONA CARDINALS @ DALLAS COWBOYS
THIS DEDICATION IS TO WINNING
(I threw sentiment out the window)
As we sit here in this 2021 NFL season,
Let's take some time to reflect back
on this once perfect season. Historically,
it is not the first time your beloved
Arizona/Phoenix/St.Louis/ Chicago Cardinals
have traveled down this beaten path.
For this discussion, we will talk about three seasons
where to Cardinals season unraveled and the
team was left out of the playoffs.
The year was 1970 and the Cardinals were in St. Louis.
Back then it was a 14 game season. The Cardinals
started out with a loss to the Rams.
By the end of November they were 8-2-1
with three games to go. In their previous 5
games They had three consecutive shutouts
where they dominated opponents. One game included
a 38-0 Shellacking of the Cowboys on Monday Night Football
another was a tie with the World Champion Kansas City Chiefs.
The last victory was over the Philadelphia Eagles November 29th.
Then, the unthinkable happened. The Cardinals
who had the 4th best scoring offense and were 5th in scoring
defense lost their last three games and Coach Charlie Winner
was fired.
Flash forward to 1977 Don Coryell led the St. Louis Cardinals
into respectability and the team was 7-3 ( 14 games)after beating
the Philadelphia Eagles again on the same day November 29th.
The Cardinals then went on to lose their next three games
and miss the plaoffs and Don Coryell was fired after
I personally witnessed the Cardinals lose to the 1-26 Buccaneers.
Now, Here we are our Arizona Cardinals 2021
find themselves trapped by fate. After starting
7-0 going 10-5 with two games to go and we
backed into a playoff spot.
The Cowboys are over the horizon and
Seattle's Seahawks loom in the distance.
Our one game at a time approach is not
working, their next man up turns out to be just
another number, Their stunning QB-WR Corps
has evaporated. Now we beg for just two more wins.
Putmein pointed out that problem in the presser. I saw it too
in Kyler's eyes and Kliff's eyes most of all.
He looks beaten down because he is.
In this year of cancel culture we cancelled ourselves
because we got too full of ourselves. We still have a chance
to come out of this deep hole. We have hope and two chances
left to go. Yes, there is hope but not for the hopeless.
