Yes, Indeed. Tornadoes are no joke. Growing up in Texas I remember seeing several Tornadoes and living in Tornado Alley experienced the 3rd largest tornado in history on April 10, 1979 in Wichita Falls, Texas that practically wiped out the only mall they had there and killed 40+ people. Unfortunately, most people that get killed in a tornado generally go out and watch it or think they can outrun it in their vehicle. Please be safe in Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky right now. Severe damage for sure.

I am sure they do with Hurricanes which are just tornadoes on water. Much more powerful at that. We either went to the storm cellar across the street or place a mattress in a hallway and hunkered down there when we were in tornado watch. My Dad being a Chief of Police always had to be on lookout for them during storm season so we knew pretty much what was happening at all times.

There are very few homes in Florida that have basements. My grandfather's home he built is one of the exceptions. He built his famous home on a rock quarry. In Florida, you can dig a few feet in many places and hit water. The water table is too high, and limestone is very fragile comapred to other rock formations. I study this in college Hydrogeology. www.rjbuildersflorida.com/blog/why-dont-homes-in-florida-have-basements-like-they-do-up-north.html
