One more nail in Keim’s coffin. Protects vets over rookies with more promise. The kid made a 30 yard field goal and was 3 for 5 in the game. Probably could slow down a little on this. It's not like he's been perfect and is drilling 55 yard kicks.

Urban just tweeted the Cards are bringing some kickers in for a workout what an asshat Keim is. Has a young boomin kicker, and cuts him in favor of the 56 year old. And now hes picking over the trash heap for kickers. I wish Sarver was our owner. Keim would be gone by now This is the guy who let Christian go to protect Butler, so should come as no surprise.
Oh and he's a week late.
Yeah, this is puzzling at best. Two weeks ago, Dawson misses 2 FG's, yet no action was taken. In the 49er game, he had no attempts and therefore no misses. Now they suddenly think....hey, maybe we should look at alternatives. Maybe it was this... "Graham Gano connected on all four of his field-goal attempts, including a career-long 63-yarder"I'm not saying McCrane would have been the answer, but you can't deny his leg and he is young. Field goal kickers are getting better and better. If you don't have a good one, you are taking points off the board. I have no idea what kind of kickers are still out there at this time. I doubt few if any have better resumes than either Dawson or McCrane. We should have stuck with McCrane for better or worse. I guess what I hate the most is that it has taken this long to realize Dawson is not our future.

One possible explanation might be that the Wise Men* have been looking at kickoff returns - ours vs. theirs. We always seem to come out on the short side of the score. Each week we have several returns by the opponent while we get maybe one or two short ones at best, hence showing the Cards as the runt in the hunt.
"Hey, let's get a kicker who can put it out of the end zone!", the Wise Men* say, followed by nods and back slaps - "A positive move to show that we are DOING SOMETHING."
No mea culpas or black marks against the Wise Men* (or Man) who decided to keep Dawson rather than McCrane, oh no, can't admit to any error in judgement.
Not that McCrane had an overpowering leg either, but he was accurate while he was here and young enough to build up that leg while remaining a speck on the budget, and equal or better than Dawson on kickoff distance. No real negatives for that guy, while it is known that Dawson's days are numbered due to Father Time.
There are many puzzling events and happenings with the Cardinals IMO, but then it is not a requirement that any of us be aware of the depth of thought that decisions have as a basis.
They do make for lots of commentary though, so we can possibly appreciate that tiny benefit.
* Unknown individuals of great mental ability who make decisions for the Cardinals organization.

Correct me if wrong, but wasn't at least one of those misses from the infield area of that stadium? Not making excuses, but something to consider when evaluating performance there.
From what he did while here he was doing very well - enough so that Phil was sweating his future. Some of the FGs were long, too. I don't recall the distance, but over 50.
As I have stated before, I generally pull for old guys who can still cut it - but reality and the future must be considered honestly.

Apparently the reason McCrane was never going to make the roster is because he spoke some **** about Dawson and after that the players took an instant disliking to him. Make of it what you will, but it would explain why there wasn't even a competition.

I wonder if the guys who got their knickers in a twist about McCrane's comments (if true), had any poo words to send Grandpa's way after his two crucial misses. Hope we don't have to worry about a good 'ole boys' club.

When we was cut, he posted a very respectful "thank you" to the Cards and Dawson. I think he just said something accidentally insulting. These players need to be mature enough to see he is the better player. Will help them win. And was not being intentionally rude to Phil. Ive said something accidentally insulting a time or two. When I realized my error I immediately apologized. It shouldnt cost the kid his job, esp when hes the better player

Hopefully just resentment that someone not yet on the team (an outsider) felt it was OK to be overly critical of someone who is a Cardinal already... "one if us", as it were. But even that is a weak reason to shoot the 2018 group of Cardinals in the foot by not keeping McCrane as the best option - if he was that. I happen to think he was, currently.
Which is better or worse: having the strongest team with personalities that can clash, or a weaker team of similar thinkers who all like each other?
I think the Cards are historically a team of proper demeanor and action from the top down. IMO the winners often are not, their thinking being only winning matters, not social considerations. Which is the best for any team is a matter of who makes the decision, meaning Mike Bidwill in our case. (?)

Interesting. Bet he does not get a call from anyone in Phoenix... or Tempe.
His record with the Raiders was not that good though. Strange since he did so well while here.

Did so well? He was like 2 of 2 or maybe 2 of 3? And one bounced off the crossbar and went in, so an inch the other way and its a miss. He didnt kick enough for people to be that excited or worked up over him. A couple kicks in preseason is just not enough to judge someone. I told people he would be avail in a few weeks and here he is..... Cards tried out Zane Gonzalez so its not like they aren’t willing to look into it. If they liked him that much and are worried about Phill then something could happen.

Raiders said he was only temporary till their regular kicker healed up. So yeah he's an option if Phil screws the pooch again.
