This has been bothering me for the last two weeks I was the one all over us drafting Isaiah Simmons way back in December of last year. Do I think he is a bust? I have no idea. I don't know if it is him, coaching>? or what have you>?
When I draft in my mind I dont think what I want I try to think. What will Keim do? Looked hard into the research of everything Cardinals. I studied it hard and looked deep. I thought they may resign DJ Humphries. > THEY DID Justin Murray was playing well and they resigned Marcus Gilbert( sitting out the season) AGAIN! > THEY DID
To make this short I ruled out tackle based on the above and guys who were there. There was no Joe Thomas or Quenton NelsonWR ruled out next I felt they were going to go with the three 2019 draftees Isabella, Butler, and Johnson. Then we stole DeAndre Hopkins and Larry stayed another year.
Remember in 2019 we were each assigned a player to research I had Andy Isabella. I looked Folks. i read it all. THERE WAS Nothing that excited me then except numbers. Nation's Leading receiver.
Here is who I compare Andy Isabella to baseball player Dave Kingman Kingman led the National League in Homers Twice 1979 he had 48 homers. It was all or nothing he had 442 homeruns in his career But now comes the kicker, He struck out 1816 times 4th worst in MLB history, his lifetime Batting avg. 236
Andy gets me a TD or Two once in awhile but what else? How is he going to get passes when he is smaller than the guy throwing to him.
These guys Simmons, Isabella and for that matter Kyler Murray are like Lamborghinis. Fast as all get out but what can you do when there is traffic like New York City( NFL LINEMAN, LBS) that cut you off.
Now more on Simmons,
If I am him I have to be thinking the following.
1. They sign this guy Curtis Riley who never went to camp, nary a pre season game. Been here a week. He gets roasted play after play 2. Sure I got beat by Mostert of the 49ers and on another play I got rubbed. (the whole defense i.e. Hicks & Campbell were rubbed out several times last Sunday.)
3. Jeff Okudah of the Lions gets beat by World Class DeAndre Hopkins but he stayed in and got a pick later on.
4. I watch Hassan Reddick pass rush because they guy can't cover and we Know Hicks and Jones can't cover. 5. I watch a 3rd and 19 turn into a 1st and 10. We have all these practice squad safeties and back ups in the game and we get torched. What is his mind set after all this? Is He being coached properly? Why I am worried: I did a Thread about Vic Beasley 2015 NFL DRAFT recently. he is also a linebacker from Clemson. He was a high 1st round pick. The forum loved him I never thought he would be A Cardinal. Beasley is probably a bust. He has appeared in 1 game this year no stats
Stephone Anthony Linebacker Clemson 2015 NFL DRAFT I was all over this guy so bad. First as a 4-5th rd pick then he did great in Bowl games Combine I moved him up to the 3rd round. Saying he can go much higher. He did Saints #1 pick 2015 same year as Beasley. Stephone Anthony is an unsigned Free Agent today.
None of these guys are small. All have good to blazing speed.
So I question myself?
1. Are these just good college players 2. They play in the ACC Not the SEC or Big 10 where the best backs lineman and WRS are for the most part. Kind of like Andy Isabella's "competition."
But there are great Clemson players Like Julius Peppers & Shawn Merriman.
I am very disappointed in what I see until proven otherwise

There was no pre-season so I think his development will take longer, because you have a lot less time to learn on the job with 'real' games. I don't really care what he does so long as he isn't out partying, or Nkemdiche-ing us.

I’m not worried about Simmons but I am worried about the defensive coaching staff. Someone explain to me why Vance is anything more than a possibly decent defensive backs coach. I’ve studied the resume.

Its hard to fault Andy when his snap count is low. The dude is open...alot, and his catch rate is pretty good. Definitely better than some guys getting more snap share.
You can't knock his height without saying the same criticism for Tyreek Hill, TY Hilton, Julien Edelmen, Antonio Brown, DeSean Jackson, etc. There are a ton of historical examples too,, Steve Smith was short. Im not saying Andy is any of these guys, but if you can run clean routes, have good hands, and you're fast, then you have a chance.
There are a ton of short RBs too. All that said, there is a reason why Andy doesn't have more snap share. Either he is not earning it (which us definitely possible), Kyler doesn't have chemistry with him/isn't looking for him, or our coaching staff is just plain wrong with his assessment and are under utilizing him. To me, so far, he passes the eyeball test. That, and he is probably our best deep ball threat. Week 2 was a good example.

I’ve studied the resume. I agree. Initially, we had a good excuse to bring in Simmons slow. We had both starting safeties, and Campbell was a solid acquisition. However, there was no excuse for last week IMO. Simmons > Chin, and that dude was making plays in a variety of roles. Granted, the Panthers have to play a ton of rookies, but I can't see how our 1st round pick isn't better. He got beat in week one. Let him learn like Okudah is learning. Ultimately, my faith in VJ is so low right now. We lost so hard on third down last week.

All I can say. If your pick is #8 in the draft. He better well make an impact year one. I don't know what's going on, but either he is a bust or they are not giving him a fair chance.

I wanted Wills or Wirfs at #8. I wasn’t upset with Simmons I will say he is suffering from no camp & VJ is stifling any growth he may have IMO We might not now what we got in him till yr 2. But VJ has got to go (his lack of halftime adjustments is horrid). I think Kliff will have to can him in order to buy himself another year.

Your point about Curtis Riley is what concerns me, why the hell start that dude. I might as well been in there, lol. Impossible that Simmons wouldn’t have been better opinion. He at least been through the entire camp and certainly has tons more talent. Then Riley gets beaten like a rented mule and still no change! Something weird is going on with VJ with Simmons. Time for KK or MB to step in.

If Riley is better option then Simmons, then we made big mistake drafting Simmons-BUST? I can’t or refuse to believe that. Unless his IQ is lower then a box of rocks. This is NFL we are supposed to be putting our best players on the field to win football games. This BS about not wanting his ego or confidence hurt is just that BS. All rookies make mistakes, they quickly learn and adapt.

At some point, the player leaders have to step in and tell guys that they are not cutting it at the pro level. No one wants to hear that. Navy SEALS 101.

Good teams that have good locker room leadership call player only meeting. Haven’t heard us doing that. Who would be the guy to step up and do this? Peters? Not one of the fake captains on this team, ie Hump and PP. Has to come from soul.

Don’t know if it would do any good at this point but the roster needs a shake up. Also I was giving PP benefit of doubt on the PEDS, but he is anything but a no 1 cb at this point. If I was OC on other team I would throw at him all day.

I'm not gonna say he's a bust, I actually think he'll be alright. It's just frustrating as people dubbed him the instant impact guy and had him top 2 in DROY predictions prior to the season (w/ Chase Young) now the season starts and dude can't get on the field on a bad D. Meanwhile the guy I wanted is out there thriving elsewhere
