Welcome back Birdgang and Cardinals Nation! Our 2018 Arizona Cardinals concluded their 2018 Team Training Camp at the University Of Phoenix Stadium earlier this week, and are down east in Louisiana, to play the New Orleans Saints in both teams scheduled preseason meeting for the first time in six years.
Cardinals and Saints are also meeting for their preseason game, played at New Orleans for the first time since 1980. Arizona also seeks to end the five preseason game losing streak tonight over the Saints.
Cardinals starters reportedly, and expected, more playing time on the field tonight, especially rookie QB and top draft pick Josh Rosen. taking snaps with the first-team offensive line.
Cardinals players on their current 90-man preseason roster, along with the Saints and the other 30 NFL teams rosters, continue tonight throughout all the NFL Preseason Games in August, to audition making the final cut for the NFL's 53-man regular season rosters set by Labor Day Weekend. Other than the veteran first-string starters, the reserves, some of the draft choices, and especially the undrafted free agents and veterans, try to perform from training camp to live game action, and impress the coaching staffs to further make and earn their cause after tonight, and the remaining two preseason games, to make the regular season roster.
New Orleans defeated Arizona 17-10, thoughin both teams preseason opener at then-named Fawcett Stadium during the NFL's Pro Football Hall Of Fame Game played at Canton, Ohio. An Alphonso Smith TD, and Jay Feely's FG and PAT, contributed for the game scoring.
Cardinals and Saints are also tied in the all-time regular season series after playing 30 games. Each team played 15 games, including one preseason game won by Arizona, Saints won the last meeting 48-41 in Glendale back on December 18, 2016.
