Top scoring offenses in the NFL after 25% of the season combined record 17-3. 4-0 Chiefs 36.3 points 4-0 Rams 35.0 3-1 Saints 34.3 3-1 Bengals 31.5 3-1 Ravens 30.8 0-4 Cardinals 32nd 9.3 Top defenses points allowed combined 16-4 3-1 Jags 14.0 3-1 Redskins 14.7 T3 3-1 Bears T3 3-1 Ravens 16.3 4-0 Rams 16.8 Chiefs 25th 28.8 Cardinals 15th 23.5 You know when you look at those stats, its amazing that we are 15th in points allowed. lol...when you consider the time our defense has been on the field, they have played more like 6 games than 4. I'm not gonna say our defense has played well, but dam, when you consider the whole picture, that's not bad at all.

Two points down, three seconds to go. Cards have a 25 yard FG attempt.......
I think we all know what happens next :-(

Yesterday on 98.7 it was discussed how Rosen's average time to throw was a half second longer than Bradford's ... remember someone who can run a 4.4 40 is then getting downfield by 5-6 more yards. IMO Bradford was playing not to get hurt and throw quickly ... he was not looking downfield and so the defenses started crowding LOS which also hurt the run game. Our OL was touted as being very good on run offense but the guards have been surprisingly poor.
For years I've wanted to track dropped passes and lost yardage because I believe next to turnovers it has a lot to do with wins and losses. I believe Darren Urban went back and counted the yards lost by dropped passes while subtracting yards gained after dropped passes on the drives where drops which would have ended up as a TD ... the NET loss was 114 yards and 2 TD's. Kirk's drop was on the 8 yd line and had he caught it cleanly probably had a 75% chance of scoring or at a minimum been pushed out of bounds around the 2 yd line.
Anyway -- these dropped passes could have cost Rosen/Cards MUCH more than 114 Net yards because some of the drops prevented those drives from getting more first downs allowing Rosen more chances for pass yardage (e.g. Fitz first drop and Ricky Seals-Jones drop).
Based on the dramatic negative effect of the dropped passes, I am giving McCoy a pass because I believe the offense sputtering is the OL playing below potential and Bradford playing not to get hurt so he could earn his bonus money (unfortunately for him, he played so bad he is going to be on the inactive list for rest of season). McCoy's screen pass call came at a perfect time and the play action bomb to JJ Nelson was also well-timed only to be foiled by JJ "no hands" Nelson.
P.S. I will scrutinizing McCoy closely the rest of the season as he must show that he can be the offensive mind to maximize Rosen's talent or else Leftwich might be the OC next year.

Anyone know if Leftwich has any ability designing plays? It's one thing to coach and another to dream up new things that work. One can't live forever using plays from prior days and prior teams. Just wondering.

Just wondering. There is no evidence that Leftwich has had a hand in designing plays at any of his many team assignments since 2007. Leftwich was hired by BA as a coaching intern in May 2016 and signed on as the QB coach less than a year later. We have to assume Leftwich is working in lockstep with McCoy's QB schemes. If McCoy has half a brain, he listens to Leftwich's ideas and experiences. Leftwich as a NFL QB worked for many, many coaches since he entered the NFL over a decade ago. He probably knows a thing or two because he's seen a thing or two.

I actually very good about Sunday's game in Santa Clara. I think it will be a close game though. We will need at least 2 big offensive plays. And for the D to contain the 9'ers run game. Maybe this will be a game the D gets an int or 2 and several sacks. 9'er's tape on our O is limited and the tape on the D shows how to gas us. But...there is always a but...the Team is changing and developing still. Was encouraged by Reddick's sack and I thought Buc was hustling too. This could be a multiple sack game for CJ and maybe Golden gets his 1st of the season (that would be so sweet!). Yeah I know my Optimism is showing again....

I just want to see Rosen continue to grow into his role as a NFL QB.
Winning or losing really dosen't matter as long as Josh suffers no set backs in his development.

As bad as the team has played, it appears the defense is hanging in there (especially considering just about every offensive stat has us dead last). Several defensive stats have them ranked in the middle of the pack. The tide will continue to change and I think we will have a few sustained drives and defense keeps SF under control. I'll say 20-13 Cards. Yes, we make two field goals. www.espn.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense

Well, the Cards injury list is another bright spot this week. Just the usual DNPs, and no OUTs.
Maybe the Loss tide will turn now.
