Sophia Smith is now an Olympic gold medal winner with her team USA.

She makes more now but Michael is taking a greater financial risk especially if he can get 2 (but 1 will suffice)more contracts in his career plus he gets NFL pension. That’s a lot of future guaranteed income he will have to give her. For example WR Christian Kirk left Cards for Jags (overpaid) he signed a 72 mil 4 yr contract. Sophia won’t even come close to the zip code of that money. |

It's not about the money. If they have enough to be safe and not worry about food, they will be on the road to happiness for a long time.
A good marriage takes a lot of work, not much money, to succeed. I know a few people that had plenty money and were never happy with their partner. Maybe because money made them happier.

Here’s some stats the marriages in this country last average of about 7 years & the divorce rate is almost 50% Would you get on an airplane if you knew there was a 50% it would crash ? |

If there was ever a problem to have, is that your spouse makes millions more than you for now but come payday in a few years we will be telling a different story. I wonder, what is the divorce rate for NFL players? I imagine it is above the U.S. norm. 75% maybe? The player's have a unique lifestyle. Families adapt or don't exist for long. That's grim. I mean the airplane question. My answer is "No." A crash means the end of everything. However, there is a time for saying "Yes" as well. I've been hitched to the same wonderful gal for 49 years. The big 50 is in mid 2025. Has my eye wandered in 50 years? I'm a dude. Of course my eye wanders. My gal's eye wanders too. She and I acknowledge our humanness and animal instincts. Today, we're beating the U.S. marriage odds and we know it. Not a day goes by that we don't appreciate each other. Our communication is not perfect but 100% open at all times. Wilson and Smith's video was cool. That proposal moment is captured forever and for them to enjoy again and again as the years roll by. The time and place I proposed to my gal is forever embedded in my brain. There was no cheap video process back then except Super 8mm B/W. Plus, I was a poor college kid scraping by. |

Excellent (self reflection) post. Your story is turning out to be the exception rather than rule which is so unfortunate for society. I concur with your assessment that the divorce rate is probably higher than the national average for NFL players. I truly hope they endure like you have but the odds are staked against them.I have no issue with the covenant of marriage I (and others) just have issue(s) with the way we do it now. |
