It's not harsh. It's a reality. When players are moved around a lot, it's because they don't excel at any particular position. So teams try them at different positions to see where they can maximize their ability. Isaiah Simmons was famously moved around a lot. His apologists would make the same argument. They would argue he is so good because he is multidimensional. And when Simmons played poorly, they would argue he played multiple positions.
For the record, I have never really commented on Isaiah Simmons. He wasn't my choice selection, but (like all player's selected) I hoped he would be a success in Arizona. My only repost to your commentary is as follows - Isaiah Simmons - The FO traded him out for a seventh round draft pick. Zaven Collins - The FO negotiated with him, and then agreed a 2-Year extension for a salary of $14M Whatever your thoughts on the above two gentlemen, I think it is a mistake to simply lump them together. EDIT: I do have a lot of time for Collins, his desire and general demeanor are excellent and he reminds me (a bit) of James Conner on the Offensive side. - Is he talented enough to excel in the NFL?, then I except the jury is out and still to be decided, but I remain hopeful and I'm rooting for him (that he has a big production season ahead in 2024).

Collins has done almost nothing for the Cardinals. He's a slow learner. Listen to me here... If the pressure package is Dennis Gardek and Zaven Collins, the Cardinals are not even sniffing post season in '24-'25! I'm not upset with the years or amount, I'd rather they spend that money on a veteran one year deal. With a young, vulnerable yet potentially talented secondary, FO should not start the season with this pressure personnel! Collins extension seems a little desperate, imo and if BJ doesn't get hurt, I believe Collins is still on a 5th year prove it scenario. Yannick Ngakoue anyone? Hasaan Reddick anyone? They werent sniffing the playoffs to begin with. I really hope they dont go spend a bunch of resources on a DE, especially a short term DE. Let the youngsters get playing time. Still plenty of time. The NFC is a weak conference. 49er's are the only true NFC power house in the conference. A healthy Murray in his second season under Petzig's offense should keep the Cardinals in every game. It's the Cardinal defense which will decide how big a step the new Cardinal regime takes in 2024-'25. A successful season, imo, is to remain relevant in the playoff hunt, at the very least, thru mid December. If that happens, the Cardinals have probably tallied 8 wins and that, at the very least, is a solid NFC Wildcard sniff.

Collins has done almost nothing for the Cardinals. He's a slow learner. That sounds harsh to me BigRed; he has played multiple roles and keeps being asked to do more. - If the FO thought this, then no-way would an extension have been offered. I really like Collins's attitude and demeanor and I believe the Cardinals must think likewise. When we drafted him he was never an out-and-out Edge rusher, so I am not judging on that function alone. You are right Devo. I did not consider his many different position switches under VJ or Ralis and it is a fair point. Still, Cardinal fans haven't seen the light bulb click ON where ever Collins has been assigned. It has to be tough for any young player to have to constantly learn knew assignments and techniques. As far as his extension goes, I still believe it happened only because of the Ojulari injury.

I believe Keim longed to get back to the strong ILB presence the team enjoyed with Karlos Dansby and Daryl Washington. Say what you will, but those 2 were The Cream of the league as a duo. There were teams that had an outstanding ILB, but not a pair like those 2. Keim is rightfully bashed for his poor drafting, but another of his major weaknesses,IMO, was simply to go down to the field during practices to see what's up and check progress. He had given voice to his idea of having "2 trees" over the middle (where NFCW teams ALL ate the Card's lunch), but Vance and Billy were never on the same page with him. Vance was bound and determined that first Simmons, then Collins should be calling out the defense for each play after assessing what the opposing O was shaping up to do. Why this task was not just given to Budda was never made clear, and Vance's efforts were much like trying to feed steak to a newborn. Keim never MANAGED that situation. He should have pulled Vance into his office (which reveals the holes in the coaching "arrangement"), a job which typically the HC would take in stride. I believe Simmons became jaded with the team due to their ineptitude at getting VJ online with the damn program, and ultimately just desired a fresh start somewhere else. Collins probably teetered at the brink, but was salvaged by the new regime.

When I got done reading your reply I immediately looked for the Create Post prompt because I thought I had written it! You share all my sentiments on the Keim, Simmons, Collins debacle. Y'know, I do want Collins to succeed. He, like Simmons, have all the measurables. I want to be proved wrong by criticizing Keim picking Collins in the 1st round a draft removed from picking Simmons in the 1st round the previous year. But I'll stand by this fact, no team in the modern football era has drafted two LBs consecutively in consecutive years with their first round pick. Simmons is gone and Cards fans are hoping Collins can be salvaged into a playmaker under the new system. I am personally rooting for Collins. I do not agree with his extension tho.' Great call on the Dansby Daryl Washington tandem. What might've been with Washington bereft of all his outside legal troubles. Daryl Washington might have been one of the greatest defensive players to ever play.
