According to multiple reporters attending, during 11-on-11 work, Froholdt went down and was holding his knee. He left the field on his own but did not return to practice. It appears not to have been serious. Cards Wire’s Howard Balzer learned that Froholdt will “be okay,” while PHNX’s Craig Morgan saw Froholdt walking out of the stadium fine on his known without anything on his leg — no brace, no wrap, no sleeve. The Cardinals have an off day on Wednesday, so we will see if he misses any more practice time. Hajalte finished the 2023 season as a top 10 center. A top performer in some areas of the position and is a legitimate candidate for an extension.
Thankfully it didn’t look too serious. Another area Monti has done a great job, not only in Hjalte’s signing, but in the roster depth. The OL in particular has about 15 players as options and with Brown there is a great C option #2.

I’ve said this before and still believe it. We should look into signing former Miami Dolphins C Conor Williams. We need the depth at C and when healthy he is far better than Frijolte. He is available because he was injured end of last season, but now he just visited Seattle, the meeting went great, and he passed his physical. They are negotiating now as they are in the same position we are with C depth.
He’s eight months past ACL surgery, and not an injury as bad as Kyler dealt with. Still young at 27, rated the third best C in the NFL last year and the third best run-blocking grade. He also has position flexibility. We have $35 million cap available, and the most cap of any team next year. Seahawks have the sixth LEAST cap space available in 2024 and are -$25 million in 2025!
Grab him, secure our depth and competition for Hijalte or LG, and block Seattle.

We need better backup than that after Hjalte. The backup would actually be Evan Brown, our undrafted C who has been on six teams since being drafted six years ago, has only played in five of those years, and has never played well enough to top a PFF in the 60’s. Our depth at C is poor, and Hjalte may be a one year wonder. He is almost 28 but has only been healthy enough to play in 3 NFL seasons. I really think it would be wise to grab 27 yr old stud C Connor Williams before Seattle does.

Is it just me, or do the Cardinals always seem to skimp over the center position, no matter who is in charge? I like that they finally have size at the center spot, but you would think getting a legit center to protect your supposed franchise QB would be a higher priority. I mean the best center they have had in years was Rodney Hudson, who was at the end of his career. It was night and day when he played, why cant the Cardinals see that and do something?

I believe Froholdt was the 3rd best center in the NFL as rated by PFF the last 6 games of the season in 2023. Froholdt's steady play when KM1 returned is even more remarkable considering the LG spot next to him was a major trouble spot all season long. Kyler needs bigger, stronger IOL play to help his sight lines by not having the interior line collapsing back into his face. Rodney Hudson well past his prime and previous centers were undersized - Sendlein/Shipley are not the types to maximize KM1's value as a QB. I am hopeful Froholdt's improvement in 2023 and very good performance in the last 6 games is a precursor to an even better 2024. From what it sounds like, Froholdt will not miss much practice time (if any) based on this tweak the other day.

Rodney Hudson was their best center in a long time and he was at the end of his career, over the hill. Thats saying something. With Sendlein and Shipley I remember pressure up the middle where they were getting tossed back, hitting the QB who couldnt even complete his 5 step drop. Again, I like they finally have a good sized center and I hope he works out. If he cant stay healthy, he is no good to KM and who takes his place?

Let's try to get any IOL help possible including center. Kyler has a history of poor IOLs that he's played behind. I think the OL is the key to this offense. The D needs to pressure, stop the run, but the O has to have good line play to protect Murray,be able to score points. I like the center but depth is thin. Left guard too..keep trying to get players in to compete. I'll never forget one of Murray's first snaps vs. The Raiders in a preseason game. He gets sacked and practically curled up like a baby. Was embarrassing really..really poor IOL play. Let's keep working on this oline just to get some depth, competition. It's better both from a continuity standpoint and personnel but it doesn't hurt to keep fortifying it.

I DON’T think people realize the potential for an issue here. Froholdt has only been healthy during three NFL seasons, though he is almost 28.
When he went down in practice, that meant our 1st team new left guard, Evan Brown, had to slide to center. Left guard was already a critical weak spot for us last year. Rookie Isaiah Adams then had to be promoted up to left guard. If Hjalte goes down, we are down to a backup center who isn’t all that good at center plus it likely forces a rookie in at LG. Adams or Gaines, who just recovered from injury. Neither has played a snap in the NFL.
Sign Connor Williams. He’s got a better resume, is younger, and is slightly bigger than Froholdt.
Froholdt 2023 PFF 64.1 Williams 2023 PFF 86.5
He would have been a top, expensive free agent if not for his ACL end of last season. Now he could be had at a discount and we’d have two real potential top 10 starting centers to compete and back up. We can totally afford it.
