The successful people I have been exposed to in my life are in many ways petty and have had as many hurdles or obstacles to overcome as any have. I have also seen ones who ended up in the right place at the right time and thought they were the one driving the narrative at the time and couldn't handle adversity. Truly successful people are not hamstrung by adversities and they view them as just another hurdle on the path to success. They also have the ability to be petty. The petty attitude I am referring to is a self imposed conflict they create and they use this pettiness as a driving mental force to excel at the boring and areas many if not most think are of little or low importance and they know they are wired different than the masses around them.
Bill Walsh was one who fit this type of person. A disciple of Paul Brown, but not HC material in Paul's mind. After being passed over by Paul, Bill took his opportunity to be HC in SF. Maybe Paul was correct, however not seeing the adversity of Paul's assessment as a roadblock, but rather as a hurdle, Bill goes on a successful run in SF. Bill was a genius or guru who believed thought would conquer brawn. No doubt he was petty and one way it was exposed was in the conflict he created with the media once the Niners were enjoying success. Us against them was promoted in a paranoia driven narrative he used to convince his team to view the outside as dangerous and attempting to destroy what they became as Superbowl champions.
How does this apply to the 2024 Card team?
JG has shown elements of pettiness. In a spring press conference he labeled a reporter as not displaying winning choices by bringing doughnuts. A kind gesture was turned into a conflict by a petty HC. It is also shown by team leaders like Conner and K1. Every time Conner has a mic in front of him there is an intensity that is evident, not in what he says, rather in how he speaks and in his aura. With K1 it looks like he has never forgotten any negative thing said about him in his life.
Being a Cardinal has many established hurdles in itself and there seems to be a strong desire for the players to break through established roadblocks and the many negative expectations of the outsiders.
Superbowl has been mentioned by a few players so far in 2024. Are there hurdles? Is there a pettiness displayed by the players?
The value of pettiness is viewed as of little importance by the masses...it is everything for the petty. The petty will be required to clear the many hurdles the Cards face for their SB run in the 2024 -2025 season.
