QB Ratings for the Chiefs tonight: 109, 110, 158 (Gabbert), 118 QB ratings for Cardinals: 67, 67, 97 (Blough and only because he went 3 of 4 on his drive at the end) In last week’s win, Colt’s QBR was 84 and Tune’s was 70. For Denver, Wilson was 102 and DeNicci was 93. With this level of QB play and defense, we will win about as many games as I predicted, 3 to five. I’m glad Tune is getting a lot of reps. I think that’s smart for the long term. We want to develop him into a solid backup for Murray or whomever comes next in 2024. It's time to make a concrete judgment about the Cardinals defense for 2023. These QB ratings are not flukes. The ratings are red flag warnings for the DC to use to tell the truth to the Defense. When 3rd and 4th string QBs light up the Cardinals defensive backfield, there's a problem. What is Rallis' plan? Two PS games are nothing to worry about for fans. For some players though, they should worry a lot. There are some guys that are desperate to make the team. A lot more is going on behind the scenes at SFS. The coaches have some decisions to make. Do the coaches give some guys more snaps? More situation tests? Do the coaches sit a few guys, because they are sure things? Who will get the axe before PS game 3? A few guys will be shocked to learn that they did not make the 90-man cut already. One or two guys might get traded. A few guys will be shocked to learn that they did make the cut final 53-man cut. Good for them. Their dreams came true. The Cardinals travel to MIN next week. I expect the same ARZ team to show up and the same game results. MIN is a better team than the Cardinals. MIN will win. It will not be a blowout though. There is only one Chiefs scoring monster among the 32 teams. Mandatory roster cuts occur no later than Aug 29th. Life is going to get worse for some borderline guys that day. Gannon has some easy decisions pending, based on what I saw last night.

I did not take part in this pre-season game. I had no TV, radio, or cable access to the real-time broadcast feeds. But I did watch the NFL.com 6-minute post-game highlight reel this morning. Most of the highlights were the Chiefs gouging the Cardinals for unopposed yards and scores. Game positives for the Cardinals: - No major injuries occurred - New players got plenty of snaps - Tune is good enough to be the #2 QB - Coaches got miles of training video - Reignman's redesigned bird logo looks great on the White helmet Game negatives for the Cardinals - Cardinals "team" did not show up - Offense failed to execute easy passing plays - Defense failed to execute tackles - Too many penalties (8) (Simmons got flagged again for using his helmet...new NFL rule is being enforced...Simmons has got to play smarter...his lack of football IQ is irritating me...I did not see a reason last night to sign him to a new contract for 2024) Bottom line: Member "somecardsfan" above nails it. This team is in bad shape but is improving. That is the "reality." I already aligned my expectations with team reality for 2023. I have no expectation of this team showing any greatness at any game in 2023. There will be some fun highlights, and there will be many disappointing lowlights, throughout the 17-game schedule. I am patient. I have no choice. I had NFL+, but it was terrible. Lack of pass rush was one of the big concerns. No Sanders, BJ or Cam Thomas. Simmons was another concern. The other concern was WR Baccellia and Togiai dropping easy catches. The last may have removed themselves from 53 man roster consideration. Barnes and Collier and Wilson had positive flashes as well as Ingram. Colt is not a starting caliber QB anymore and Tune is in danger if getting starting responsibility without enough experience to help is long term career health. Blough in my mind is the best #2 QB behind K1 at this point that has some experience and if he shows bad…it is a low risk failure. Tune is worth developing IMHO. Without Brown, Wilson, Ertz and Connor Tune is playing well. He is still throwing a bit late and high at times so needs to firm up footwork and timing. He can’t throw with a terrible base like K1 can. OL was solid at all depth levels.

Truthfully, I did not see the OL on game highlights this morning. Since you say the OL performed okay, I accept that assessment. I did check the game stats. I saw 5 punts and 1 turnover on downs for Arizona. Yikes.
What can Gannon and Petzing do to fix ball control?
Kingsbury also had no answers to the same problem in the last 6 games (0-6 run) of 2022.

Turn over on downs was after a TD was taken away for a “illegal crack back” penalty. The Cards in normal game situations would have kicked a FG on 4th goal from the 9 yard line. Two 3rd downs by dropped passes that were on target(not high). Tune did not get help from the TEs or WRs. He also had a couple late or high throws, but much better than his first quarter of play against Bronco’s. The defense without starters was the major problem. Over 300 yards on chunk plays given up. No pass rush, no blitzing, poor coverage on double moves and no QB pressure. Simmons was out of position on some of the long completions and gave up after the personal foul…it was a bad look for Simmons. Terrible for a top 10 draft pick. He has been abused in his career to this point by offenses in coverage. His on field play speed is suspect.

Weren't they deliberately NOT rushing the passer in order to assess the secondary? 🤣 I was missing B.M.jr last night.Had been hoping C.Mathews would build on last week's game, but nah. Not real sure what to make of Simmons now, I really hope they can get him ironed out.

I was hoping it was as you state on pass rush, but even with a four man rush there needs to be some kind of disruption. KC almost had two turn overs so there is that. The first punch out went right back to the KC WR, and the second should have been a incompletion at best for KC instead they were gifted a goal line first down. KC WRs, TEs and secondary played much better than the Cards counter parts. Tune and Ingram were the two bright spots that needed to be seen. The questions of Bacellia, Togiai, Turner, Stille, Slade, Seikovitits, Luketa, and Lawerence killed what little hope they had in making the 53 man roster. Kel’Trel Clark, Moffett, Simmons, and Woods are on the bubble with Clark having some good tape against the Broncos. Wilson, Barnes and White are locks. I think Dante Stills and Slade are on PS and Stille is released.Ertz, McBride and Whiteheart seem to be the top three TEs.

I thought Bacellia had a chance. So, that begs my question, why play at MIN next week? I offer that answer. Gannon highly values communication, process, and fixing tiny flaws. He wants maximum effort at all times. He'll focus on that stuff. Meanwhile, the players work on doing their jobs as best they can. A few days after the MIN game, 21 guys will be cut. 16 guys will be sent to the PS. A few hard calls have to be made. Some of the guys cut and 1-2 PS guys might find jobs elsewhere before Sep 10th. None of of that matters though. After a month of football, we'll all be looking at 0-4, and then the doctors and KM, and wondering, "When is the Mini Savior coming back?"

Anyone know how the injuries went? I didnt watch the game, but it sounds like some bad injuries last night. From the AZ 620 news site:
"In addition to taking an L on the chin, the Cardinals saw a few players exit the game due to injury. They include linebacker Dennis Gardeck and cornerbacks Marco Wilson and Kris Boyd. Per Gannon, Gardeck is dealing with a knee issue, while Boyd injured his ribs. Wilson’s injury was not disclosed."

The quote is what I read about disclosed injuries. Knees and ribs are common post-game bitches. I have no idea what is bugging Wilson. I did not see anything new in the print media on Sunday. I doubt Gardeck and Boyd will do anything at MIN this week. Wilson??? The Cards and Vikes are supposed to have 2 days of sandbox time prior to the final PS 3 game at MIN on Aug 26th. Cutdown date is <72 hours later on the 29th.

I will say one thing Simmons will have receivers looking over their shoulder. Even if they flagged him he sent a message On the NFL recap vid of the KC AZ game, the WR was sliding/slipping when #9 grazed his shoulder pads with #9's upper arm/shoulder. No helmet to helmet at all. How was this a penalty?

No helmet to helmet at all. How was this a penalty? The officiating was atrocious with 2 egregious calls against the Cardinals - Simmons roughing and the "crack back block" by #39 (Kaden Davis) on the TD pass by CT to Baccellia. Additionally, there was an obvious block in the back on a KC punt return right in front of their returner that I could see live that would have put KC inside the 10 than around their own 40. Also in the 2nd half LB Luketa broke free from the LT and had a free run on QB when the LT grabbed his shoulder pads and basically tackled him ... KC QB completed pass and would have stopped one of their scoring drives. Both of these missed calls were some of the most obvious calls during live action and I kept looking for the "FLAG" notice to show up on the scoring ticker at bottom of my TV screen ... never showed up as no flag was shown. P.S. I guess Andy Reid and the Chiefs (who got favorable calls in both the Bengal AND Eagle SB game) have a different set of rules to abide by during play. I really don't care since it was a preseason game vs. our Cardinals but I hope it isn't indicative of future egregious calls (like the reversal of the Dorth TD too) against the Cardinals.

The Ref crews get graded just like the team rosters get graded. Some officials don't come back on Sept 10th.
